Manta Ray facts: possibly dragons?? | Animal Fact Files
Показать описание
Manta ray is the common name for a few different ray species. Originally they were classified in their own genus, Manta, but that has seen been changed so that manta rays are classified with devil rays in the Mobula genus, so this episode will discuss the approximately dozen Mobula ray species. Of course, most the information here is about manta rays because devil rays are much more shy! These large fish can be found in tropical and temperate oceans throughout the world. Manta rays are extremely intelligent and love interacting with divers. They've even been known to recognize themselves in a mirror! Devil and manta rays are filter feeders and must continuously move in order to obtain oxygen. The cephalic fins on their heads may be unfurled while eating in order to funnel food into their mouths, but they'll roll these up when not eating!
