Pantone Not Supported-Adobe InDesign Workaround with Pantone Connect

Mini-workaround: Click on the magnifying glass in the interface of Pantone Connect, then type a color: e.g. 200 C. When it finds it, click on the “name” part. It will replace the active color. Double click to add the swatch, rename it and define it as spot color (it will come in as a process color).

THIS MONTH (March 2022), Pantone colors and color books will no longer be available in Adobe products. Learn a workaround in Adobe InDesign!

Hi Ann, Thanks for continuing to cover this, its very helpful. I’m surprised you’re the only person I’ve seen on YouTube discussing this. 👍

Thanks for showing this solution again for InDesign 🤩👊 Do we need to do this workaround for Illustrator and Photoshop too?

Appreciate the research and correspondence you conducted Anne!

Thank you! I just dragged the Pantone color into the box with an empty square, and automatically it appears in InDesign.

One other workaround if you already have a Creative Cloud subscription, is to install an older version of InDesign alongside the 2023 version.
Yesterday I installed the 2022 version (v17.0) and all the color books are still there. So I could add all my missing corporate colors to my CC Library, and then pick that library up in the 2023 version, and all the Pantone colors were there.
This works for now, don’t know for how long. Version 2022 will only be possible to install for so long…

Thank you Ann for this comprehensive video . Do you know what's the difference between Pantone connect and PantoneLive?

So adobe does not have Pantone colors however I have access to Pantone colors. An example being Pantone P 30-8 C. Now, this number doesn't match the PMS. Is there a way to match whatever this adobe Pantone color is to the PMS?

Whenever you create your own spot colour swatch within Indesign, the name you give it will also be shown as the plate name in the exported PDF. I therefore don’t see the use in telling the printer the placeholder story – in the PDF there is no more reference to the RGB or CMYK values that you derived your swatch from. If you name the swatch after the intended Pantone colour, the printer should and will use that Pantone colour to print that specific plate.

Just fyi, all color books are in your application folders under Presets until the update comes.

When does this happen, losing Pantones?

Hi, I needed to place some psd files that use pantone colors (multichannel) on my indesign artwork. Do you have a workaround for this? I work with packages and labels... I used to do this all the time, but now it seems impossible.

How about if you've paid for a Pantone Connect subscription Pantone let you activate that in your Adobe account somewhere and it acts like normal??? The Pantone Plug-in is quite literally the most useless thing I have ever seen. Monopolies and greed aren't great for the consumer, maybe Getty can buy Adobe and Pantone and we can just have 1 company that rules them
