I love Pat so much. Through out his entire tenure as a Germ he never owned a guitar or amp. He was their guitar player. At every show he’d just borrow one of the bands guitar and amp. Dude is a living punk rock legend.

Dave is a passionate musician! He always give over 100%! To everything! His drumming, his guitar, and his singing!!! Listening to Nirvana, always knew he was a great drummer, but when Foo Fighters came out, I was like “Damn! This guy can do it all”!

I was a huge hard rock/metal fan in my teenage years and put a lot of time into my speed and scales, then went into a long time cutting my teeth on guys like SRV and J Winter..etc. I would never say Kurt was a bad guitarist. He just focused all his energy on creative melodies. His main influences were The Beatles and punk rock type bands. All his output went toward his songwriting and not blazing through scales. He played a lot of guitar. He had his strong points and weaknesses like most of us. I think he was one of the best at what he did and was a breath of fresh air in a sea of glam rock.

I believe it. Some people never get out of the shadow of their predecessors. And he got out of Kurt's shadow and has made some timeless music and continued to rock on. That is awesome!

You can see that Dave feels a bit awkward being regarded so highly, this is the exact reason he has become a great musician. If you think you’re awesome you stop trying to get better and you fail to progress your skill set, on the other hand, and in Dave’s case, he feels like he is mediocre so he continues to strive for a higher skill level. Seems like a really genuine and down to earth guy

Yeah well Kurt played off like he didn't know anything but he knew how to blend parallel keys and had real melody that are easy to remember
That is why no one remembers the 1 million garage bands from seattle and remember his songwriting .
I saw a movie about kurt where they said Kurts neighbors in aberdeen were the band Metal Church so he knew it was possible to make it in music . Also his aunt was an elementary school music teacher whos main instrument was guitar .
I also like the way teen spirit is based on the riff Godzilla by Blue Oyster Cult

Being better than Kurt technically is nothing unique, but his brilliance was what he brought creatively. The ferocity and sheer expressive freedom; In this why he was like the punk Jimi. Kurt had more rawness, Dave has more refinement. Both are world-class greats in their own right.
