Apple Studio Display: 5 Things I'm Obsessed With

I am a software engineer, and I have also researched a lot to compare with wide screen monitor like LG 38" before purchasing this monitor. I have zero regret. I am so happy with the Studio Display thanks to the high resolution. The font is so clear even in a small size. Another huge plus is working with high end beautiful monitor motivates me to work more resulting in more productive for my work. Desk is so clean with a simple cable management. Only the drawback is the price.

This monitor is totally worth the money even without Pro motion or mini led. The design is simply beautiful. The best part is how the glass sits on top of the aluminium ie from the front you only see glass. And the 5k scaled retina resolution is razor sharp. I wish apple would build a 65" version of it ( tv Display?) so that I don't have to connect my  tv to crap from other manufacturers. It would be a piece of art on a living room wall.

Samsung recently announced their Viewfinity S9 - a 5K monitor designed to compete with the studio display. The cost? $1600. Sure it does a couple things the Studio Display doesn’t, like a height adjustable stand by default, and more ports. But the build quality looks so much better on the Studio Display - and you just know the experience for Mac users will be so much better on Apple’s monitor. The Studio Display almost looks like a bargain next to Samsung’s 5K offering.
For all the people saying the studio display is overpriced, why is there nothing comparable on the market at a lower price?

We have two home offices with an LG 27” 4k in one for our M1/M2 MacBook Pros and my dear old 2014 27” 5k iMac in the other. Mostly we write. The iMac is feeling its age and will have to be replaced before long. I could get another 4k LG but when I move from the iMac to the LG, the difference in text quality is just *so* dramatic — it is *so* much sharper and easier on the eyes on the iMac. My frugal side keeps telling me that 4k is *fine*, but I just don’t think I can live with it. I could get an LG 5k, but then we’re already in $1000 territory and the other fantastic advantages of the Studio Display justify the extra cost. Anyway, thanks for the video, it has helped cement my resolve!

“That Premium Apple Tax” you’re defending paying for there seems a little offensive when you consider Apple themselves bypass paying taxes by locating centres in Ireland etc. Pure laziness and greed that they haven’t made improvements, a better quality camera or offered size options to this Studio Display since it came out and don’t get me started on their extortionate stand prices!!! “You get what you pay for” is a bit of a naive cliche in this case. The only thing they have to back that up is the aluminium build. Lacking a lot in other areas considering advances in technology that are available now. Are they ever going to give us a new improved Studio Display? If I bought one now at the same price it’s been since it came out (never see any come up on the Irish refurbished sites) and they announced a new one a few months later I’d be absolutely fuming. If they’re not paying taxes in Ireland they should be passing on more affordable prices to their customers.

Why can't you get it without the webcam?
Having a webcam there means you have to have a big patch of duct tape on the top of your monitor.
