I think that for active aero to truly work, it will require some sort of avionics. Perhaps an AI avionics system that measures the drivers inputs and biometrics, and adjusts downforce via active wings and diffusers.

In my experience in Formula Student Simulations of just the Rearwing are a waste of Time for the most part. The upstream vorticities of Formula Student cars completly fuck up the Rear Wing. If you look at pictures of the cars you will see e.g that the drivers head is directly in front of the Main Profile of the rear wing. I think that the paper is a good example of cheery picking.
