I dreamt once that I met Taika Waititi on a bus, and I asked him to give me advice on writing and he said: you can't edit before you write it :O It was the best advice I was ever given. I would love to meet him just so I can tell him this. :P I know that he will not care, and I know that it was my brain that invented it. But still, it was so exciting!

This guy is a creative powerhouse and beacon of positivity. A refreshing change from the usual stagnant, self-important director with a vision. He doesn't take himself seriously at all. All the outakes from his films, the entire crew looks like it's having a great time. He is like, Kubrik's opposite. Probabaly gets the shot in one take. :)

As someone who’s got a fairly late ADHD diagnoses I think armchair diagnosing someone with this hellish yet incredible disorder is almost impossible. However, after developing kind of a celebrity crush on Taika and watching more and more of his interviews I am willing to bet my first born child on the fact that this man has ADHD. I have never ever related to someone as much in my life - and that includes a lot of outspoken *diagnosed* people. His way of thoughtful emotional thinking but also absolute deadpan humor mixed with random anecdotes, losing his train of thought, randomly stimming and having the memory of a goldfish while being so passionate about creating is what has made my life so damn hard and yet beautiful for the past 19 years .
I hope he knows the kind of inspiration he is for people of all backgrounds alike!

That last part about being interested in people resonated with me so much. I'm a street photographer and visual artist, I studied psychology at undergrad, minored in studio arts, and now doing my masters in neuroscience. I create stories and direct short films. I plan on studying medicine after my masters and continue with filmmaking as well. My friends would often joke about how i'm all over the place but honestly always told them they're all connected. I find all these facets rooted in that pure interest in people and human experience.
Very refreshing video with really great insight from an organically creative person. Thanks for sharing

It really gives me a lot of hope that if you have ADHD, you can still be a world famous director.

"My first film I got nominated for an oscar, and people told me I was good and to just keep doing it"… sweet advice, Tai!

The way he describes the gathering ingredients in the filming and making the meal in the editing is so good.

This man has never uttered a coherent sentence in his life. Not a single one.
And I love him for it, finally some good representation

Taika Waititi's flippant nature is so refreshing! Every time I hear them speak about any topic, I feel enlightened and invigorated.

he is probably the only person who can give like inspirational talks like this that I can actually relate to and understand.
because most of the time, for me at least, whenever people gives inspirational talk like this, it's just toxic positivities without actually being helpful.
but this advises he gave, is the opposite of that.
this is why he is my inspiration.

Dude is a legend...one of tha funniest and most talented director/actors I've seen in a long time. he is also spot on about the creative process. Don't force it, give yourself the time and make it great. Don't take it too seriously and HAVE FUN is basically what he's getting at. That makes the art pure and more reflective of life. Live life, and make THAT inspiration

I've recently been diagnosed with ADHD and I can't help myself, but think that he might also have it, because identify with his thought and creative process so much😅 it makes me feel so much better to see that you can be absolutely chaotic and still successful

he seems like he'd be a fun guy to hang out with, and even more so to work with on set

He gives me RDJ vibes. The ADHD, the analogies, the fractured thought patterns, even some of the same speech patterns and cadence.

He is probably right about art and painting but my son passed away and he was a part time artist. I took up painting and it has helped me feel calm and some connection to my son. It is helping me heal, to be creative. I only give away my art. Most I have. I will never be famous or successful but success is measured in different ways for me

Thanks man! When I watched this during the conference I thought it would be a shame for it to not be shown anywhere else afterwards.

Love him and his movies, but his “insight” pieces are in most cases just him going: “Basically, just wing it.” 😂
