How Sonic Frontiers is an Evolution of Modern 3D Sonic - IGN First

We talked with Sonic Frontiers' Game Director Morio Kishimoto to find out how Sonic Frontiers is attempting to evolve the modern, level based, 3D Sonic formula by introducing a playable world map that they're referring to as an Open Zone. This is the first time I’ve seen Kishimoto in a video interview and honestly, as much as I’m really mixed on the games he has directed, he seems like a nice guy and really passionate about the series.

It’s often easy to forget that there are people behind the development of these games.

You can definitely see the stark contrast in technical quality between the older and newer builds here, because this video swaps back and forth between footage of the two. Frame rate is the most obvious improvement.
