Hi Ryan, THANK GOODNESS I've found your video. I'm totally new to Macbook and I was having problems not knowing how to even export my videos on FCP. Thank you for your effort in making this video and I appreciate it very much! I'm hoping to kickstart content creation and your videos helped me alot!

What's the difference between your "Youtube" settings and the settings FCP uses for their "YouTube & Facebook" export?

So you was right about changing it to 4K it lost quality because I used a filter. Any advice so I won’t lose quality and still be able to color grade?

Definitely going to try out these settings and see how it goes.
I'm just nervous about the file size for my 20 - 30 minute gameplay videos. I normally use Handbrake after I'm done Exporting from Final Cut Pro to bring the file size down without losing quality to make it a faster processing time on YouTube... Do you think that, if I used these exact settings and then put the file into HandBrake, that it would just be a waste of time?

Thanks for all the videos, learned almost everything from you!

Just wondered - if you’re cropping in 4k, isn’t it better to export into 1080 instead? Otherwise you’re rendering it down in 4k when it’s not actually 4k…

Does it really matter if it's Proress 422 or H.264 after youtube compression? Is there a difference that you can see? For the last few videos I did, I used Format: Apple Devices and then Better Quality and for an unknown reason, youtube takes way less time to check the Full HD and 4K quality while uploading this format. And after compression, I can't really tell the difference between h.264 and "Apple Devices"

Does changing the timeline resolution actually create less lag? I haven’t found any difference. 4K video doesn’t compress into 1080p by doing that, just check the video file info. Im pretty sure the only way to downscale video clips is by using proxy clips, exporting the clips in 1080p or using compressor and compressing the file. When changing the timeline resolution you are just cropping 4K videos to 1080p, that doesn’t mean the file is 1080p so I don’t see how that will effect playback functionality. I used to change the timeline resolution like you said because it was lagging only to find out the problem was my 2tb external Hard-drive, it was to slow of a transfer speed for 4K video editing (130mps when you need at least 500mps and up.). The only options I had to deal with lag was to make proxy clip (that are a quarter the resolution of the original clips.) or use the internal ssd for the library, and transfer the library to my external hhd backup when I’m finished.

This must have changed now in Final cut. I have followed your video and sadly when I change to those settings you suggest I end up with a 4.6GB file for an 11-minute video. Any idea why? I used a DJI pocket camera in 4k.

Good to know that prores 422 works well for youtube coz ive been using the 422 HQ and that takes forever to upload and process

you might want a new computer. I'm using a mbp13" m1 chip and 4k HEVC video editing works fine

Exporting from final cut without using compressor is incredibly limiting… btw changing between better quality and better performance only affects playback, not exports
