For those who can't, for whatever reason, you might be able to buy locally raised meat either at a farmer's market or directly from the farmer.

Guys we buy hay for our goats. We have a great farmer that sells us coastal hay which is perfect for goats for $5/Square bale. And we go through about 110 bales a year. We can sell 2 baby goats and that’ll pay for the hay. And we had 7 baby goats that will go to new homes this Saturday. Annnd we are getting 3/4 of a gallon of milk every day from the momma goats.

Raising our own meats makes us very respectful of our food. We raise our own 50 meat birds, layers, 12 turkeys, pigs, small 20 head Aberdeen beef and have 2 family milk cows. It's hard work but wouldn't change a thing.

My mother said 'Happy' noise didn't upset her. She'd never tell us to quiet down, but she might go up to her bedroom... or out in the garden to do some work.

Congratulations!!! From piglets to the freezer in Wisconsin. Not always easy, and it is awesome that life allowed you to do it with the difficulties the past year. Freezer camp is a glorious day! Congratulations again! Now when is the BBQ?

Hey Big Family, when you are buying hay, ask the farmer if it's been sprayed by Grazon. If so, pass on that hay.

Having grown up in Wisconsin I know farm animals are not pets. They serve a purpose milk food on the table ect. To many peaple these days don't get the concept of this. You are wonderful to give them the best life. I have seen hundreds crammed in pens fighting for food.. god bless you.

Yup, buying hay is on my agenda. But I don't have a tractor so most of my have is square bales. I do get some round bales, but I peel them, mostly. If we have some bad weather moving in or some bitter cold, then I'll have the neighbor I buy round bales off of drop one in the pasture.
