Finland is magical and I was privileged to be born there and spend my formative years there. 🇫🇮. My favourite things are the snow, saunas and the magical forests...

"So Finland has been in wars before?"
During independence: against communists, the Soviets (three times) and the Nazis.
Before that: against Novgorod, Russia, Vikings, crusaders, against our own tribes, against Poland-Lithuania, the Kingdom of Poland, Livonia, dozens of German states, Hungary, Turkey, the UK, etc. etc.
We have a history of war going back 800 years and forts and weapons from way before that. We've warred against and under two major empires and at least twice alongside a third.

Fortifications are known from Finland already from the Stone Age onwards. The scattered descriptions of wars relating the Finnish tribes are listed under the Early Finnish Wars. The Finnish oral folklore and mythology was made into a book "Kalevala" in the 1835. There's a link between the Kalevala and popular fiction. Clip: "The Lords of the Sampo". For military interest and Finnish American link, there's likes of Lauri Törni aka Larry Thorne. Documentary: "Törni - Sotilaan tarina (A Soldier's Story) English Subtitles".

The aurora borealis / the northern lights are particles from the sun reacting with the earths magnetic fields in near the north pole. That is why the sky gets green ribbons from time to time usually only visible when it is dark and there's no clouds. Same happens in southern pole as well I guess, but is probably rarer to see because there's not many habitet areas where it occurs.

Norway ceding the mountain never happened. Not because the didn't want to, but because the Norwegian constitution forbids ceding any land to other countries.

1939 in Finland was 3, 5 million people, in Soviet union was 150 million people and they don't defeated us in war. That war is called winter war and that is what "sisu" is.

Old joke

A Finn, a Swede and a Norwegian competed to see who could swim across the Atlantic. First, the Norwegian swam five meters, said "I can't take it anymore" and drowned. Then the Swede swam ten meters, said "I can't take it anymore" and drowned. Finally, the Finn swam five meters away from the opposite shore, said "I can't take it anymore" and swam back.

Are you able to get a book/books named 'Matti in the Wallet: Finnish Nightmares' about finnish sayings and idioms. Those are great for foreigners to wonder! Or you also can search some videos about those from 'Dave Cad's' channel. He's british who lives in finland and make youtube videos.

There is no soviet buildings in Finland, cuz Finland was NEVER a part of it.
There is no huge difference between scandinavia or Finland. Finland was directly a part of Sweden over 600 years and got it's culture and sivilization through that. A lot of metal bands in other Nordic countries as well. Finland was an autonomious oblast of Russian Empire of tsar 100 years. Those buildings he is reffering to are from that time.
Actually a german architect Karl Ludwig Engel designed a lot of buildings for Helsinki and St Petersburg. So those buildings are not Russian style at all.
I am a Finn and I know my country.
