urkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is planning what’s dubbed 'the construction project of the decade', a massive canal connecting Turkey's Marmara and Black Sea. The canal will provide an alternative route to the Bosporus, one of the world’s busiest waterways, which divides Istanbul. But the project is proving controversial, both domestically and internationally. Dorian Jones reports.

I get the concerns since it will essentially render European Istanbul into an Island of sorts between two straits (the new one and the Bosporus). It is indeed a "crazy" project BUT Istanbulites also complained about building a 3rd bridge but that turned out to be a much needed bridge and a massive success. Istanbulites also complained about the new mega Airport yet that turned out to be super helpful and aided Turkey grow in terms of tourism and connection flights in general. Something in my heart tells me this project will be a huge success for Turkey. IT's just people are scared at the idea of a massive city becoming an Island.
