Turkey turning coronavirus tide with huge contact tracing effort - BBC News

Turkey, which had one of the fastest growing coronavirus outbreaks in the world, says it is turning the tide.

The rate of infection is slowing to its lowest level since the first recorded case back in March. The authorities say a nationwide contact tracing system, involving almost 6,000 teams, has been the key to overcoming the virus.

Meanwhile in the UK, the pandemic is posing a particular challenge in rural areas, where the population is often older and poorer. But in the village of Piddle-Hinton, in Dorset, a huge volunteer effort has brought unexpected benefits for its 500 residents.

Clive Myrie presents BBC News at Ten reports from International Correspondent Orla Guerin in Istanbul, and West of England Correspondent Jon Kay.

Didn't Turkey also regiment that people could only go out on certain days at specific times, based on age? They have done a great job!

Living in Turkey now. They've done a great job because the health infrastructure is amazing (so much investment over the years). The hospitals are more than half empty and so many good hospitals. We're receiving international covid patients believe it or not.

Yeah, great job Turkey! Now you're putting pressure on over 3 million students to go into tiny classes with the others to take the university exams. All those students who will take those exams are under 20. They weren't allowed to be out in the streets for 3 months! They kept studying in their houses. Now you are forcing them to take the exams only with a mask and disinfectant on these hot summer days. Big mistake Turkey! You're throwing away all the efforts you've made.

For 1.5 months, we have 2 days or 4 days curfews on weekends and the other 2 days. I have never visited any restaurants from 20 March 2020 till now, all lights of restaurants and cafes are closed, just package services are done away from restaurants. So small populations are at the outdoors walking or jogging on the streets. Cold weather abounds during May. Above 65 years of age with 7.1 million population have been in indoors all the time during weekdays, they can only go out for 10 days, 1 day 4 hours free time outside of their houses from 1 April 2020.

In spite of EU and USA, since the start of corona virus Turkey has been fighting succesfully and managed to stopped it. For example today only one thousand people are reported to have virus after a huge number of tests have been done and since the start of virus totally four thousand people unfourtunately passed away and I think this number is low in consideration with the population of Turkey, 86 millions. I hope all the world will manage to defeat the virus, god will help humanity.
