Hi Gerri, great video, love the pinning trick for nested seams. Mine never match perfectly. Definitely going to give your technique a try. I use liquid starch [more economical] If I have a small piece I make a spray mixing one part liquid starch with two parts water and put it in pump-type spray bottle. For larger pieces I use a basin or bucket and for light stiffness I use 6 cups of water for each cup of liquid starch. Dunk the fabric until it is wet all the way through, wring and hang to dry. Works great for jelly rolls. A gallon goes a long way.

I learned the starching idea from Kimberly Jolly and it is a game changer!! Your blocks fit together so much better and easier ♥️

I love the idea of just spraying the background fabric! I knew I saw you talk about it before but couldn’t find the video! 😂 thanks for sharing this again! And thanks for the pin method! ❤️👍🏻

Buy sta-flo in the jug, mix, dunk, hang on drying rack, then dry iron. Much much cheaper

Amazon sells the majic sizing. I used to get at Dollar Tree or Dollar store for $1. Amazon $9 something for 20oz. I loved it.

I like the starching idea. Just a quick question though. Why don’t you use liquid starch? Wouldn’t that be easier and cheaper?

I have seen this with Kimberly if the Fat Quarter Shop. I’m thinking of getting a liquid starch.

This starching method really works well. I learned about it a few years back from Fat Quarter Shop who featured Lisa Bongean demonstrating it. They have a whole YouTube video of how to hang and let it dry.

Liquid starch is much more economical and I feel easier than spraying, folding, spraying, folding again and again.

What is the quilt named that looks like a gray star then white then gray that makes it look like a flower? It is so pretty. I think it has gold stars in the background.

Is it a problem to starch just the background fabric but not all of the fabric? Thanks! great video :)

Thanks for this! I starch all my fabric and it really helps with accuracy and shredding. Since starching shrinks the fabric why do you only do the background? Also for those who don’t know about starching it would be helpful to say why it’s a game changer.
