Somewhat of a correction.
Katana were primarily sidearms to the samurai, not the main weapon

The wakazashi wasn't used for seppuku. The shorter knife like weapon called the Tanto was used.

For those wondering what are those 2 katanas one is normal but the other is short. Its called daisho a pair of traditionally paired Japanese swords, typically consisting of a katana (long sword) and a wakizashi (short sword). These sets were commonly worn by samurai as a symbol of their social status and were an integral part of their traditional attire.

Also the diasho picture you saw in the beginning is from a game called shadow fight 2 and is named daisho as well.

The tanto was used for self deleting not the short sword.

A lot of times when a samurai entered a different persons home they had to leave their katana at the door, but they were allowed to keep their wakizashi so they didn’t feel vulnerable to being attacked

It was NOT a main weapon. Nobody would use his sword as his main. Like everywhere else, spears and bows were the main weapons. You usually shot all your arrows with your bow (Yumi) befor you grabbed your spear (Naginata/Yuri). Only if your spear isnt manageable because someone is right next to you and your horse, them you would quickyl draw it for one quick slash and then get your Katana back. A Katana is no main weapon. Yes, you would use it as your main weapon in a duel, but in war on a battlefield you would use it as your last choice

Correction. They would use the Wakizashi for Seppuku only if they chose to do it in the battlefield. If it were ever done ceremonially they would use the Tanto blade

Samurai didn't use their swords that much in the battlefield. They would've used polearms and guns in combat. Swords were either for dueling, or just status symbols.

This video seems to have quite a few inaccuracies. Wakizashi were definitely not used for seppuku, tanto knives were. Katana were not the primary battlefield weapon, spears were. Also katanas brought into battle were not razor sharp due to the fact they would get damaged too easily from multiple clashes with other weapons. They were slightly dulled to make them more durable.

Samurai were actually not so quick to use their blades. They actually didn't care too much for close quarter combat. They bows a lot more than they used their blades.

No, katanas were mainly used as a sidearm. The primary weapons for open combat was either the yari or naginata.

Actually, it's the tanto (an even shorter sword) is what samurai's use when they're committing seppuku

The Tanto is what they used to perform Exit Lobby, not the Wakizashi

Correction samurai did not carry two swords by their side. It was a katana on the left, wakasashi across the middle and tanto knife on the right. These are not the main weapon but the bow used whilst riding a horse aiming for the eye's of the opponent. Swords was used as a backup weapon if the opposition was either to close or bow was broken or lost in battle. The wakasashi would drawn with the left hand first across the body the katana with the right hand.

The reason they wore them continually was they were a badge of office.
A reminder to all non-samurai that the samurai had the power of life and death at their fingertips.
After all, over 99.99% of the time, they were on display, not in use.

A warrior is worthless unless he rises above others and stands strong in the midst of a storm.

They would use the tanto for seppuku and the katana was a secondary weapon samurai were mainly archers on horseback the wakizashi was really only used for indoor fighting like you said or is some cases duel wielding
