Just replaced a diesel Ford Mondeo belt, water pump, idler and tensioner.
200, 000 km, which is the scheduled replacement interval.
The belt looked a little old, the water pump, idler and tension pulleys look and feel like new.
Pretty straightforward job, took a few hours.

An interesting feature of this engine is that while it's an interference engine, the valves are actually not inclined and are actuated by rockers. If a belt breaks, the pistons will hit valves, but because they're straight they don't bend, and all that happens is some broken rockers, which can be replaced without removing the cylinder head.

Great demonstration of the timing belt actually breaking at 0:33.

My dog taxi is a 2001 Saturn lw300.
Bought it 15 years ago from my elderly neighbor who could not longer drive.
It has a 3.0 liter V6 that requires a timing belt change.
Changed the belt when specified and followed all the maintenance guidelines.
It now has almost 400k miles and still runs perfectly

Ford fiesta they said change at 150k miles or 10 years what ever come first onesty I change the serpentine belt when I cut belt I did inspect and at 93k miles was almost like new so I can guess timing belt should last at least 150k miles

I just got done changing my water pump, oil seals and timing belt on my Lexus GS 03 . I bought the car a few months ago and was putting it off but just had to take my time and do the work and I actually enjoyed it .

timing belt materials have come a long way since the early days. In fact, there are manufacturers that claim for their newer models that the timing belt doesn't even need to be replaced.

My 1986 Porsche 928 original timing belt was replaced after 10 years @ 100k miles due to a waterpump leak. The 2nd timing belt is 14 years old, however I live in San Diego with average temp of 75 all year. New belt technology last longer than those from the 80s and the majority of belt failures are due to other components or extreme climates.

I had just replaced my timing belt at 201, 000 miles and the belt still looks pretty good.I wasn't gonna change it but the seal behind the balancer shaft came off and leaked oil pretty bad.Iam the original owner 2000 accord. I believe that timing belt replacement is one of the dealership scam, You can go up to 300, 000 miles and more without spending $1000.00 that the dealers charge.Save money just do it yourself if you can. Also the water pump and tensioner is still in good condition.Honda water pump and tensioner don't usually go bad on a Honda.I have 6 Honda accords Me my wife and kids drive ONE ACCORD.Very low maintenance car.Just change the fluids oil specially.

Timing belts may have been more convenient and cheaper for the manufacturer, but it is an expensive pain for the owner. Rubber timing belts should never have been used in any engine when timing chains technology has been used for many decades. Most timing chains usually outlast the engine's useful life. "Planned obsolescence" is the curse of consumers worldwide.

In some cars, it's not a huge loss if the timing belt breaks such as a Toyota or Lexus with the 1MZ-FE V6 engine VVTI or not.

i have a 2012 sonic, with 96k on it, i looked at the belt, it looks good to me, can still read everything on in, also all the motor mount bolts that have to be removed on my car to do the job have marks on them, like washers have socket marks and bolts have marks on edges, also intake boot clamp which is usually removed just to get it out of the way was lose, all these things lead me to believe it was changed, when i dont know, but if i was to guess i would say 60k because on the cars this replaced thats when it was to be done while the sonic is to be done at 97500.

I had a timing belt break once. Luckily the engine was freewheeling (noninterfering), so no damage was done there.

I have a question i bought an 07 ridgeline used and it shows the timing belt was replaced 30, 000 miles ago but it has been 6 years as well. I know thats not a lot of miles on a belt but what about the years ? Should i go by mileage or years more ?

I have a 1994 toyota camry 2.2 four cyl motor with 167.000 miles and still has stock timing belt on it. I assume this because no one put the sticker on if they did change it. Guess i will hope for the best and maybe just have it changed at 180.000 with either a gates or dayco kit along with the water pump. This is my 5th toyota and i have never changed a belt or a chain on any of them. Two 4 cyl PUs and a Tercel car had about 300.000 miles when i got rid of them. I think Toyota makes the best cars in the world.

Your timing belt will last as long as it takes to break. If you want to know how long that is drive it till it breaks. No one can accurately predict when that will be.
