The Navy is getting SERIOUS about its new STEALTH FIGHTER

The U.S. Navy has requested a whopping $1.53 billion for 2024 to fund the continued development of its new stealth fighter, dubbed the F/A-XX. This marks the first time the service has assigned a publicly-known dollar figure to the program and it offers us an important glimpse into the Navy’s priorities in the years to come.

We'll have a full dive into this program in an episode of AirPower coming soon!

* "...plans to enter service in the mid 2030's." *

Yep it's already flying.

Straight FAXX. Alright, put the tomatoes down. I'll see myself out.

The carrier environment is harsh. I hope the RAM will be able to tolerate it well and things like salt spray does not degrade the stealthiness of the aircraft.

This fighter is more important than the NGAD

I think it’s North Carolina State developing ceramic RAM technology that will survive the sea and supersonic heat. That and the XA-100 engine technology are critical to meeting the goals of the Navy. I’m glad for the big request and I hope Congress doesn’t slack at all in finding all of it as much as I’d requested. This is a program that needs to move forward with the greatest possible speed and have the best possible management at a level reflecting hard lessons of the past so that it’s fast and oriented toward solving problems in the best and most efficient way possible that will make everyone proud of it. My fingers are crossed 🤞 while my enthusiasm is high. NGAD and F/A-XX are needed now.

It’s going to be big because it needs a 1000 mile combat range fully loaded. Anything less is a non-starter in the Pacific.

I mean America single handedly turned the aircraft carrier from an auxiliary ship into the flagship of any navy. Their militaristic power is in the airforces they have at their disposal.

It just goes to show, that the Navy really does give two FA-XX!

Those who control the sky dictate how the battle will be fought.

Need to reach the Chinese mainland undetected from its carriers.

The us navy has plenty of arleigh Burke class destroyers anyway and Ohio class and Virginia class subs, so Spending it on a next gen fighter will be great.I hope it’s a twin engine up to 2 seater stealth plane like f22/f35 and larger and engines thrust is over 40k lbs each weighs close to 50k lbs and long range Mach 2.5 plane with a large internal payload

Is this what Northrop is building in Utah. Lots of people relocating since F 18 is done

slightly related. read an article today that they are asking for about 200 million dollars to ‘modernize’ the B21. I have questions...

Give ‘em the money… all the money. Anyone remember the YF-23 that was competing against F-22? Make all the cool stuff please.

What do you think about the postulation that the DoD is pushing forward on 6th gen aircraft so hard because they are advancing towards ultra-high altitude combat, and eventually suborbital aircraft, as their mechanism for power projection?

Obviously the Navy has the toughest mission versus our strongest near-peer competitor.

Get all the tooling out of storage and start cranking out! B1s configured to the B1R spec.

And Cruise will make a movie with that one, too.

So many other areas that need investment as well. - Adaptive cycle engines for the F35
- Integration of Meteor or upgrade to the AMRAAM
- R&D of CL20 propellant
- Upgrades to the AWACs fleet

The only question is how the navy will fuck this up
