It's not just young people that are hooked on their cell phones. This problem affects all ages.

Glad I grew up in the late late 90s and early 2000s
I had a good childhood, no phones, no internet, no social media

It’s sad to see parents give their phones to little kids to shut them up. My little half sister who was about 3 or 4 when her mom started letting her play games on her phone would cry when it was takin away from her and she would cry till she got the phone back. Like go outside and play with the kid or stay inside and play board games.

I wish they stopped at flip phones. I don’t know anyone other than my grandparents who still have a land line or house phone. I’m on my phone less than my parents are!

I can tell you just in the last 10 years I've become addicted to being on my phone all the time. It started out when I got a "smart" phone the immediate gratification of picking up your phone and accessing anything you want is convenient and also dangerous. Pray for my soul.

Think about this, how are we supposed to be advanced like we all expect to be by the year 2050 if we can't put a phone down for 5 minutes .

That's why if I go on a date with a girl these days and I see her putting the phone on the table, taking pictures of the food or checking her twitter, I'm outta there. Waiter, bill please! Thank you for your time miss, have fun with your followers. I'm not here to waste my time, have a nice day.

The message from this video singlehandedly changed my perspective on life (to put it bluntly, it woke me up). My (now habitual) tendency to deliberately refrain from using my phone at dinner time, before bed/first thing in the morning, at work or in other group settings, or when conversing with pretty much anyone is owed to this video, hands down. I've also significantly reduced my use of social media over the last couple years. Though getting here was a process, it's 100% worth it. Glad to have figured it out in my 20s.

Everything in our lives revolves around addiction.

Someone creates a new technology and people use it every day and then one day they get tired of it so they create BETTER technology that is far more addictive then the previous one and the pattern continues.

Corporations create more and more addictive devices every year to keep the profit going while our lives fall appart.

I employ younger people.
When we sit down for lunch, I usually try to initiate a conversation, but they have their faces 6 inches from their phones the whole lunch break. They will literally laugh at something nobody else can see... and then just keep watching and your sitting there thinking should I ask what was so funny?

I sometimes feel bad for teens these days. Most are much more interested in a phone vs a trampoline etc.

I deleted all my social media’ a while back but kept only one as this was for my own personal use.

Honestly, it’s a very BIG positive when I did this. All the negativity that came from it was gone

Now most of the time when I’m being productive, I leave a documentary or educational video on playing in the background so at least subconsciously I take in more info as I try to be productive instead of sitting constantly on my phone for social media and wasting time.

Dopamine is also the chemical that is released when scoring an A on a test, scoring the winning goal, or talking to your crush.

I guess he's right about deep meaningful conversation. Or atleast engaging in one.

Amen, brother! My boyfriend is constantly on his phone and cannot put it down. Whenever I have brought it up, he gets mad and tries to make me feel bad for pointing it out. Sounds like addict behavior to me.

Not only should an 11 year old ( elementary age) not have any social media, but they also shouldn't have any internet on their cell phone where they can look up stupid things like porn, cyber bullying, sexting, YouTube videos with explicit lyrics, R rated movies, violent video games, or self mutilation videos... etc etc in the privacy of their own bedroom. Children are naturally curious about the world around them and they will explore. There is also sleep deprivation and cell phone addiction that comes with having a smart phone. As a schoolteacher, I feel very confident that I am seeing things that I never encountered 10-15 years ago!!! No! He is not exaggerating!
