This video is a new chapter in my long-running series exploring the incredible speculative evolution saga of Serina, the world of birds. Serina was created by the talented artist and worldbuilder Dylan Bajda — and many extraordinary developments have occurred since we last explored this distant moon.

The triumphs and tragedies, the joys and the sorrows of this era are perhaps greater than any that have come before. So, for this entry into the archive, we’ll chronicle the rise and fall of fascinating species, and discover astonishing revelations as the world of Serina creeps ever closer to its end…

The fact that sapience has evolved like 7 times on this world is really a wild concept.

I feel like Serina, much like the creatures with in it, has evolved. From what was a simple question of “what would happen if we made a worlds of nothing but a single type of bird” into a giant catalyst for stories of triumph and troubles.

Fun fact: I actually read most of the actual things on the website, and when Brighteye is dying, and the visitor/strange voice is apologizing to him, his last words were literally just a simple:

"Fuck you..."

AND TO SAY THAT CAUGHT ME OFF GUARD WOULD BE A SEVERE UNDERSTATEMENT.

Serina is a tale about how an echo of the words "I love you" changed the trajectory of an entire planet, saved it's creatures, and gave them sentience. It's truly remarkable

So I'm not the only one that caught the Alien Planet reference, right? A yellow probe that lands on an unknown world, who initially looks for one of its siblings (that also happens to be red), only to find that they didn't survive the landing? Even Fellstar's face looks almost similar to Ike's. All that was left was for them to stumble on another blue probe on their journey.

Author: Do you want to cry about a fictional species of future birds?
Reader: What?

Fellstar and Eve's story nearly made me cry. This project is honestly on a whole another level, I can't explain exactly why, but it evokes deep and very familiar feelings within me. It truly is a beautiful epic. Thank you so much for covering Serina, I'm so grateful for that.

Serina is such an astounding gem of a project.
It's more than just an excercise in speculative biology, it's a well-written tale that tackles big themes, in a world whose every component, no matter how seemingly arbitrary is crafted to be meaningful and rich in detail.
You can clearly notice the passion that flows into the product. Reading about Serina inspires a sense wonder for the natural world, both whithin and beyond the project, and that is rare among it's kind.

The sea steward's mistake actually saved the lives of every other creature on Serina...the being might not have needed to take them to another cloned world...the release of greenhouse gasses from the coal warmed up the moon, melted the ice, and helped life continue on as though the ice age never happened.

I never imagined that I would cry for an alien bird, descended from canaries man-carried on a distant moon, thousands of millions of years before, and... her probe friend, designed by other alien birds, man-carried to an other far away planet.

Fellstar looks kind of like a Birrin, having six legs, a pointed "face", and a similar body shape.
Serina's original inhabitants are from Earth, and humans also canonically exist in the world of Birrin...

The shift to character driven storytelling is so impactful after knowing the history. The Eve story made me cry.

i love how it goes from “the ants are ready to KILL” immediately into “but things are nice things are dandy”

Author, Narrator, Audience: "Ah yes, Bird World."
Fish who took over: "Am I a joke to you?"

Fellstar and Eve's journey was the best part, it's sad almost made me cry. There are other interesting things like what happened to the Sea Stewards and who is the one overseeing all this.
This is not only a book on Speculative biology but also a story with characters you can connect to and can't believe it all started with a bunch of birds and plants

In the world of Serina, intelligence can be ended by a stroke of ego or by their own creation. In the final years of the Late Ultiminocene, life will not be governed by intelligence or colonialism, but the roots of what started life on this moon and with the acceptance of that there will be no happy ending to this story.
