First Rib Self Release Technique

Dr. Rowe shows shows an EASY first rib self release technique that can get pain relief in as little as 30 SECONDS.

This video is really going to focus on an elevated first rib. So if you're experiencing pain in the neck and top of the shoulder region, you may have strained the area around the first rib.

That’s when the soft tissues around the neck, shoulder, and upper ribs stiffen up, causing issues with range of motion, POP and CRACK sounds, instability, and pinching pain.

So we'll tackle this first rib pain with a self adjust (self mobilize) technique in the form of easy AT-HOME exercises and stretches.

Think of them as helping to RESET your first rib and helping the soft tissue around the neck and upper back move and glide more freely which (hopefully) leads to more range of motion, less popping and cracking, and just makes the it feel better overall.

Again, these stretches are really EASY to do and can be done at home or work.

So WATCH NOW and get that first rib feeling better with this self mobilization exercise!

I had been struggling through some neck/shoulder/trap issue that was going down my arm and into my AC over the span of about 7 months.
A guy at the gym today mentioned the first rib, so I came home and found your video.
I used a loop of webbing for rock climbing.
After one round of your full routine I am 80% better.
Amazing!
Super grateful you took the time to post this tutorial.

You, sir, are a saint! I've been dealing with upper back/neck troubles since going to the chiropractor to fix a ton of back issues. My muscles just don't like the new positions because they've been in the old ones so long. Woke up this morning with horrible pain on the left side from my ear/side of my face, all the way down and through my upper trap, out to the shoulder. Stumbled onto the elevated first rib issue and found your video... near immediate relief! I couldn't push up without severe pain in my trap trigger points (like pushing a dumpster flap open or putting a box on a high shelf) and I had this sensitivity pain in my ear and jaw. All gone or going away now that I've done this. Bookmarking now.

Thank you for your public service. I have been dealing with doctors, physical therapists, massage therapists for what has been termed to be a bulging disk and pinched nerve at the CT junction for three months now. This first rib mobilization exercise helped a lot as soon as I did it. It would appear that the first rib has been overlooked for its role in pinching nerves and blood vessels.

Yes Chiropracter said behind my collar bone where the first rib sits is out of alignment. Been weeks. He couldn’t touch it because it hurt too much. That was. Over a week ago. I’ve been resting it. This stretch has already really helped me. I hear a bunch of popping. This is great to know and I will remember in gratitude! TY

GOD BLESS YOU!!!! I knew it was my first rib bothering me and never had a way to get pressure in the right area to correct it. While watching your video, I simply applied pressure with my opposite hand, turned my head, and both heard and felt it go back into place. THANK YOU!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I'm home, dealing with covid symptoms and have not been able to go to a chiropractor. This was an absolute godsend.

Avid cyclist clocking in ~180 miles per week both indoor/outdoor as season permits. About a year ago I started having left neck muscle spams to where my neck would basically "lock up". Started yoga & 1st rib mobilization exercises but still had trouble (and pain) turning my neck left. This strap technique is the best I've found so far. After one set I could turn my neck without pain. After about an hour the pain returns. I just pull the strap out again and repeat. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Thank you so much for this!! I have been feeling a pinching pain deep between my shoulder blade and spine which kept getting worse. I tried everything and painkillers didn't help one bit. Couldn't get an adjustment either due to COVID-measures. These exercises gave me almost instant relieve, I'm so grateful to you!

Man everytime I looked all the way to my right, and then down, I heard this knacking sound. Did your technique, and now I'm easily looking to my right with no weird cracking sounds. I can't thank you enough man.

I slept poorly last night and woke up hardly being able to move. It got a bit better through the day but I still had limited ROM and pain. I saw your vid and didn’t have a yoga strap but just used my other hand to pin and I got two solid pops while going through this and while the pain isn’t completely gone, it is so much better. Thank you!

I am a Physical Therapist Assistant (I work in a SNF) and I have had numbness in my thumb, and 1-3 digits for about 4 years. I have seen a PT twice and concluded its not cervical and it’s not thoracic outlet. The 2nd PT did say she thought it was the elevated rib. She showed me how to do the 1st rib mobilization with a gait belt but I could never quite do it right. Thank you for mentioning the yoga strap. I am going to get one and try it again because the numbness is getting worse at night where I am waking up 2-3x with numb fingers. It can take 15-20 minutes for the numbness to go away. I have been miserable. Thank you for these!
