Had this happen multiple times inside the building I lived in in Oakland. Despite having video footage, license plates, and even having the police stop and question the perps trying to gain access to our building, despite having followed them to a local hotel OPD still refused to do anything. I reported to the FBI who just said talk to the USPS. That was a black hole that you can scream into all day. Eventually management at the local hotel locked the perps out of their room when the maid found it full of stolen goods. OPD returned the items and still did not prosecute. They just cited Prop 47 and washed their hands of doing their job. California needs to get rid of Prop 47 or amend it - mail theft is NOT a quality of life crime. I cannot believe CA failed to do that last time it was on the ballot. But I no longer live in CA so good luck to you guys because I do not see any law fixing this if there's not enough enough law enforcement to deal with cases that are handed to them on a plate.
