Going to the office requires a commute, that time loss can either come from the company (not likely) or your personal time (not rewarding), then there's also lunch costs - higher than eating at home. So, while It literally lowers our salaries to have to physically be in the office, no employer (that I've heard of) has done the simple thing... offer attendance based bonuses, incentivize coming into the office with cold hard cash. Not to mention that in SF at least, heading to your downtown office is a guaranteed exposure to some form of human depravity.

If I had to hear that cringey vocal-fry from the fitness coach on a weekly basis, I too would shake my first at my employer for forcing me to come back to the office when everything was simply way better during WFH.

Why isn’t this news outlet instead dissecting the debate on WHY the heck these companies want people in the office… against everyone’s wishes /preferences??

I was hired in a WFH slot almost two years ago from a top 5 company. Was recently told, I have to move to either Seattle, San Diego or Phoenix within 12 months or find another job. This because there is zero corporate offices anywhere in the state that I reside…. All this despite averaging 9.5 hours a day and exceeding all expectations in my yearly appraisals…. Nice….. completely over the top… ridiculous

Who wants to be stuck in traffic and spend 30 min finding parking

So they want people to go back to the office because the city is suffering revenue loss? Clean up the city first and get your city budget in check.

2:45 Why would big companies forcing their employees back into the office also force smaller companies to do the same? Jim doesn’t explain that at all.

2:59 The “economy” benefits, but Jim says nothing about the increased cost to workers if they need to physically return to offices. Will their base pay go way up to compensate for the benefits of working from home?

Did the city government pressure the media to report this garbage in hopes of increasing tax revenue?

Salesforce CEO is from a SF old money family, I don’t think he understands an ordinary people’s struggle just staying in the ultra expensive Bay Area.

That's why I refuse to work for a company again ...i need to have control over both my time and money. Most of these workers are highly skilled...hopefully they can get out the rat race and start their own businesses. Plus AI is going make that change happen soon.

I do not have time to participate in her workouts, I’d be wasting my time getting to work already. My top priority is to be the best at my job at home and be an amazing mother. That, is THE MOST important thing to me. No charity, no performance incentives can take that place of me being a mama!

Will Google and Meta guarantee workers will make it to work and back home safely?

Commute and spend your money in the city instead of your own home city? Forget it.

Working from home is cheaper for the company

So maddening that all these people got to stay home when those of us who worked in senior care homes or hospitals, didn’t get any breaks 😡

Why don't companies just come out and "Ronald Reagan" workers who don't come back to the office?

why $10 per a day to charity instead of giving gift cards to the employees to who paid for toll or bart? I never get these companies...

It's not just the tech companies. The crime, the homelessness. Policies which have made keeping small businesses alive in San Francisco costly and difficult really hurt its recovery.

The criminal activities in and around BART is one hurdle. The criminal activities in and around downtown San Francisco is another hurdle. Working from home is the answer to our goal of low carbon footprint to reduce the effects of climate change. Work from home and save the environment. In life sacrifices must be made and small businesses must be offered to the gods as offerings.

Good luck getting us to return to the office! LUL! One taste of freedom is just enough to motivate us all for a lifetime. Civilizations have gone to war over pepper corn.. We are more than willing to go to war over our own work-livelihood betterments sake!
