Arminius' ambush at Teutoburg was a colossal military catastrophe and a devastating blow to Rome's pride and power. But Rome was thirsty for revenge. The task fell first to Tiberius and then to Germanicus, a reputed Roman general who distinguished himself in Germania and fought the legendary battle of Idistaviso.

Rome divides and unites. Some people hated the romans Some loved them..that's just the way it is ..they had great resilience..lost a legion in Scotland then built a wall lost to the parthians and hannibal and sparticus .boudicca etc .but still kept going ...even after the goths sacked rome..still they recovered ..says a lot for them as a people...

The massacre cost the germans more in the long run than it cost the Romans. 20, 000 troops compared to several Germanic tribal groups exterminated and several more severely damaged, I think the germans learned a lesson from this. The romans could have gone back over and over to keep doing this but stopped when they thought they had done enough.

Despite Romes revenge, it was never able to lay claim to Germania again and make it part of the Empire

There is poetic justice to the fact that it would be the Germanics, ultimately, who Christianized Europe - using the Roman language!🙏🏼

Roma Invicta. Honour to Germanicus. Who showed the Germanic who's boss. Roma is eternal. The Glory of Roma is eternal. And no one will ever be able to break that!!!

Finally someone mentions it. Romans didn't lose in Germania due to Germans, but due to their inner politics fight.

Rome got her avenge and more. Armenius to be slain by his own and other Germanic tribes he tried to save, oh the irony.

Never forget Teutoburg hadn''t been a battle, it had been an ambush.

It's good to hear about germanicus ..after the defeat...plus he knew how to defeat the German tribes..great general..yes it was a bad defeat for romans..but as far as getting eagle back..i thought he got 2 eagle's back??..plus his victory is played down a lot...as it makes the romans look like they knew how to defeat the tribes...it was a lesson rome learned..both germanicus and armineus were betrayed by there own people...ironic....both were great in what they did....history is written in blood...
