love how the roman soldiers climb up the wall with a shield and then for no apparent reason throw it away. Not to mention the guy tossing his scabbard off to the side as if its an empty magazine from his rifle or something.

Funny how Hollywood tries to show the Romans as villains and yet everyone loves them

I scrolled down for the "and the hero takes his helmet off and discards it when the air is full of enemy projectiles" comments. Do they really think we need that to follow who he is?

Zealots would have been better armed, the region had been awash in weapons and armor since the bronze age, and Roman equipment for many decades.
I like the scene, it shows the animosity between the combatants as described in Josephus' work, and I like the idea of a pragmatic Pilate sending troops to kill Barabas immediately after releasing him. A very Roman thing to do.

They throw away their helmets, shields even insouciantly toss their scabbards. My god I’m surprised they didn’t disrobe in this scene:-)

Didnt saw this movie but have to admit that scene was pretty good. J.Fiennes over the top, as usual (my fave still his Enemy at the Gates' part) and he fit the role truly well, not too 'thin', not too experienced in battles, strong and ruthless as we used to be in the past.🤭

Pretty rare to see a movie depicting how roman really used the pilla, as a throwing weapon and not a spear like it’s usually shown in movies

The roman army was highly trained to fight as a unit. The opposing zealots were not a match

So far this is the first Roman Movie that portrays their campaign in the East. Most of the time Roman movies always potrays them fighting in Western Europe.

And to think, Barabbas had JUST gotten released from prison.

It was a great dishonour for a Legionary in Caesar’s legions to lose his shield.

This movie is how Christian movies should be. It was more subdued and less preachy than normal and actually entertaining and well acted and produced like a "normal" movie.

Qué aprendemos de este clip? Qué no hay piedra lo bastante dura, ni espada lo suficientemente afilada que puedan hacer frente al arma más poderosa de todas, la disciplina.

This must be the first instance in movie history where the use of a testudo formation actually made sense and would have been effective.

Ironically, when the messiah came Rome became everything.

I've seen the movie interesting take from Roman point of view. Fiennes was commissioned by Pilate to locate the missing Jesus after his resurrection. He was there at the crucification and saw Jesus die. The investigation was conducted like a detective or PI notably like Dragnet. Until Fiennes ran across the risen Savior he saw dead on the cross.
