Where do our ancestry DNA test results come from?

Well, ya see, we have this REALLY big hat…

…And this hat has a whole bunch of tiny pieces of paper in it.

These pieces of paper say things like “British” and “Nigerian” and “Vietnamese” in it…

We pull one piece out at a time and tally the results until we’ve reached 100.”

KIDDING.

No, that’s not how it works at all. You’ll have to watch the video to find out how it really works.

Is this video for everyone’s DNA or one person?

Right. Two generations in one area is ridiculously short to consider the people there as references. My great-grandparents migrated to the northeastern US. So I have three documented generations here. That doesn’t make me Native American. Ridiculous. Also, how many individuals do you count as a reference population? I checked Ancestry’s white paper on this topic. It’s a disturbingly small number. So much nonsense.

So if my CRI test came back as 31% German (which no one in my family is German), chances are it's probably English (which there is)?
