This launch seemed to fail because the mounting of the thruster to the body of the rocket. The base seemed to crumple first as if the engine burst it's anchors, literally resulting in the engine thrusting itself through the rocket, rather than lifting the rocket, the weight of the rocket caused the tower to collapse, ripping away at the base of the cone under the weight, and torque of the engine. (apologies for my lack of accurate technical terms).

Am not panicked at all. They'll have a fully functional starship by the start of 2024. I mean, common, it's SpaceX People! There is nothing those crazy geniuses can't do

Short answer, Because it is a prototype, prototypes will do this but normally you won't see this because normally prototyping is not made publicly visible, SpaceX is unique in this as they stream every flight they do, prototype or not
