There was also a deleted scene where we saw the body of the hunter, also killed by the fire. If I remember correctly, it was just his arm while the rest of him was crushed by a tree or something, but that was also decided to be too graphic.

Actually it was better they deleted that scene. The fact you don't see her get shot, you get stuck in Bambi's POV, possessed with frantic anxiety as he sprints back to search for her before collapsing in tears when he hears second hand what happened.

Contrast this scene with Simba's father going down, at least you see it happen. I think it's less traumatizing to witness tragedy that for news of it to be sprung upon you.

Too gory?! Just hearing the gunshots and watching Bambi call for his mother and search and then crying when his father tells him she can’t be with him anymore literally made me ball my eyes out as a child
The gunshot itself for me was terrifying aswell as watching a bird who panicked and flew off get shot down from the sky 😫😭
