Why the Death of the DCEU Could Save DC Films

Показать описание
There appears to be a lot of confusion circulating online in recent months over the current state and future of Warner Bros’ live-action DC Comics adaptations, particularly in the aftermath of 2017’s Justice League and the notable departure of Batman star, Ben Affleck, and the uncertain status of Henry Cavill. Many seem to be questioning what the future holds for the DC Extended Universe (the unofficial name for WB’s series of interconnected, shared-universe style movies), and I think the answer might be about to become clearer. The latest entry into DC’s live action motion pictures was Aquaman late last year, a film which arguably saw a shift in mindset for the studio, with very infrequent ties to any previous movies and being an outlier in the series for feeling like a truly James Wan movie. These factors, amongst others, point out which direction that DC’s movies will be taking in the future. In response to Justice League’s failure, in January 2018, Walter Hamada was made president of DC Films, placing him in an executive/oversight role over the entire sub-studio at Warner Bros. And under Hamada’s leadership, it seems like DC is moving away from the cinematic universe, and instead focusing on making more isolated, self-contained and creator-driven projects. So in this video, I want to discuss the factors that led up to the demise of the DC Extended Universe, what the future holds for the various DC Characters and their live-action adaptations, and how I think this particular strategy could be what saves DC Films.
