The casualty number really does emphasise what a huge blow this was to the Empire. A million personnel, some of whom (like Tarkin) were extremely valuable individuals, were wiped out in one battle. Combined with the loss of the Seventh Fleet at Lothal, the loss of Thrawn, plus the destruction of two Star Destroyers and a major base at Scarif, the Imperial military was significantly weakened. Rebel losses were relatively higher and far more difficult to replace, but those victories gave them much-needed breathing room as the Empire recovered.

You would be surprised Luke isn't seen as a monster who did mass genocide on empire workers, most only doing the job BC they need money, and ontop of that they are just trying to feed their families. Working for the empire isn't good but I can imagine you can get a good paycheck

Hmm. I’ve always wondered about that. Now I’m curious to know how many people died on the Death Star that was still under construction, since it was only partially manned and still being built by slaves.

Seems low. Since of the Death Star has a radius of 75km. That’d be 1, 8 million square kilometres. With 1, 9million ppl that’s just over 1person/kilometre squared. Or 0, 66 with Legend numbers.
