"It's not broken, it's just not working."

That one hits a little too close to home.

Kid: "Why is your computer still broken?"
Linux Community: "Why is your face broken?"

"My computer isn't broken, Junior, it's just running free open-source software."
"Why, daddy? Are we poor?"
"No Junior, we have ethical standards."
"Ethics suck, daddy. I just want to play Minecraft."

The most dad statement ever "[my daughter]...however old she is" 😂

Linus: "How was your week?"
Umm...
Linus: "My kids are mad at me."

So much for finding out how his week was.

As someone who is heavy into the linux I'm actually really glad that linus is complaining about the things I used to complain about all the time. I hope this sends a message to dev's that if you want your stuff to go to the main stream you have to put in the same amount of work that main stream software does when it comes to documentation.

I have been a Linux user for about 3 years now and most of the issues you are having I never had, but I am super excited to watch the videos that ur going to release on yt specially I wanna see the issues and the negative in ur experience so maybe the distro maintainers can fix these and make it better

Just wanted to thank Linus for the Linux challenge. Pointing out problems is the best way for things to get fixed, especially for open source projects (because it really sounds like a lot of Linus's problems have to do with KDE and a few other applications such as nautilus and dolphin... And qt and gtk.)

In all honesty a lot of these applications are really janky, but if we know what the problems are we can fix them. Valve has also been putting in a lot of leg work into these projects lately too. There are a lot of exciting things happening for Linux desktop!

have you tried asking microsoft to transfer to steam?
i think it would be intresting to see if microsoft will port your game over to steam even without revealing who you are

a few years back i bought the quake champions pack(basically the full game) on the bethesda launcher (yes really) about a few months later i saw the game on steam and wanted it on steam (no real technical issues, i just wanted it on steam, also the bethesda launcher wasnt great but that wasnt actually my motive), so i thought what the heck and emailed them and within 2 days they literally just ported my purchase over to steam so considering unlike me you actually have a reason to use steam over the publishers own launcher you might be able to just ask

You can play non-steam games on proton by just adding it as a non-steam game in steam as far as I know.

Linus is right about the documentation problem for anything outside of the immediate scope of official documentation of the distro you're using or the very few software developers that care enough to give Linux support for their products. Which is a big issue considering that documentation and "tech support" from the community, or whatever you wanna call it, is held as a big advantage of using Linux. Whenever you want to hack away a solution for a particular need of yours, IF you manage to find any sort of article that is actually about the specificity of your problem, what you'll find is probably a 4 year old guide that no longer works. If things have gotten better is only because there's been more official support to the platform.
I wish there was a way to really tell what guides will actually work before wasting your time with them.

Btw one thing that is never brought up by LMG with Linux Challenge. Proton actually provides better compatibility with OLD titles, that were released in Windows XP / Vista times. Wine never dropped support for old APIs where Windows has moved on, loosing backward compatibility. So if nothing else, linux gaming has a pretty solid niche.

Kid: "Why can't you play with us?"
Linus: "Daddy has to keep his promise to a bunch of strangers on the internet."
Kid: "Why?"
Linus: "Because some people in this house keep asking for things like Minecraft Dungeons that cost money."

EDIT: Wow, thank you all! This might be my most liked comment since one on a certain channel that was deleted after 1 year. 😥

To paraphrase Sheldon... "In a world that already includes Windows gaming, why would I settle for something that is *like* Windows gaming, only much harder?"

When I was a kid I only had a Linux PC. I've had one XP dual boot system for a few years but before that and after that Linux for everything.
