This is the first dog trainer I 100% agree with. I've been training dogs since age 13 years old and I'm 53 now. I have a male Cane Corso name miles he is 20 months old, i can pull up to a wooded area him in the car with my wife go hide in within a minute he will track me and find me. Only because marijuana is legal in the state of Nevada I taught my dog how to sniff for weed.
It's easy to train your dog as a drug dog, a brief summary, start off with a tennis ball and teach your dog to fetch the tennis ball, then train your dog to find the tennis ball when you hide it. Once you get there whatever you want your dog to smell for put a slit in the tennis ball and put that substance in, continue the training eventually take the tennis ball away and just have the substance.

Ugh! I was driving and missed the live!! I just adopted a 3-year-old white GSD who is clearly of the working line. She's wonderful, but I am having trouble pulling the trigger on training for psychiatric service dog work. I'm afraid to ruin everything by making irreparable mistakes.

By the way, his response to my comment about harnesses being designed for pulling was: "Well, you wouldn't put her on a choke chain?!" I then said to him: "I never mentioned a choke chain - a slip lead would be perfect. I've actually obedience trained 3 puppies on a flat collar because, if you work consistently with them every day, it's you, your assertiveness and consistency.that is what the training is about - the tools are there just to help you.

I am confused on how the dog would know the command with only using the e collar? Like how does she know if she should place or sit for example?

The real fail is the people who are allowing all those things to happen because they haven't bothered to put in any kind of training whatsoever. I saw a 14 week old Lab puppy last night that was similar. Of course, it was on a harness, and it was yanking its owner, it was jumping and almost flying in the air at my tiny 14-year-old do - no control, did not listen, and of course they made the excuse that it was a puppy. I casually mentioned that puppy training otarts at 12 weeks and got the response: "Oh, we're going to look into training for sure!" 🤦‍♀️
