Meet One of the World's Smallest Primates on World Environment Day

A thumb-sized baby pygmy marmoset, one of the world's smallest primate species, just made its public debut at Austria’s Vienna Zoo in time for World Environment Day.
The baby marmoset was born in April, and it's just around 2 inches tall and weighs about 1/2 an ounce.
Marmosets' natural homeland is the Amazon rainforest where their survival is at risk due to deforestation, zookeeper Fredi Maier said.
Marmosets subsist largely on a diet of tree gum which they lick from the bark, but they eat insects and fruit too.
The zoo now houses seven pygmy marmosets.
It is part of the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP) which tries to keep endangered animal species alive.
