Ok so Aemond Targaryen is probably my favourite character in the House Of The Dragon storyline. An almost perfect opposite to Daemon he's one of the most cunning people in all of Westeros and I thought I'd make a video discussing why he's so important. Throughout this video we're gonna be going over his backstory, what lies ahead with him and why we love him so much.

Now as we touched upon earlier, Aemond is the perfect opposite to Daemon on a number of levels. Not only do their names sound similar but their brothers also end up becoming the King. In the book Alicent puts together a plan to oust Rhaenyra after the death of Viserys and it looks like the show is following the same route.

This sets up the dynamic so that both Aemond and Daemon are very much opposites to one another and throughout the storyline we see as they become bitter rivals.

Both are skilled swordsmen, brilliant strategists and Aemond stole Daemons ex wifes dragon just to add some salt in the wound. This creates a heated rivalry between the two that we'll discuss the outcome of later in the video.

This was teased at during the banquet and it extends far beyond just being involved in food fights.

As we've seen in the series Aemond was often overlooked when he was younger and the book details how when he was born he was half the size of his brother Aegon. Constantly pushed around by him this created a fire within that slowly drove him to become more and more ambitious. Whereas Aegon had everything handed to him on a plate Aemond had to fight for everything in his life and this carved out an incredibly fierce character who would accomplish several things in his childhood.

Can we talk about Aemond's CASTING?? The actor playing him radiates total psychopath, even when he's not saying a single thing or just standing around in the background. I'm terrified and I'm obsessed.

I cannot stress enough how his casting could’ve been a DISASTER. Firstly, his character is extremely well written. Aemond is a super dynamic character which makes him difficult to portray. As an actor, your eyes are your most important tool. Any actor for this character is at a 50% disadvantage from the start. Ewan not only has the perfect villainous face, but he emotes through just one eye fabulously. Just watch how soft his face is when he looks at his mother vs when he looks at Lucerys. In the latest episode, you can see the emotion in his face when he learns of his fathers death. Amazing casting. Can’t imagine how many months it took!

Aemond and Daemon are so similar. The look, the attitude, both savage and badass. Although Aemond is more reckless probably because he’s younger. They surely make this whole show turn upside down, you can really feel their tension and chemistry on screen.

🗣in episode 8 I was stunned by his acting ! even though he didn't have many lines you couldn't but feel his presence... his gaze, the permanent smirk, the "hmm". Just finished episode 9 and my eyes were constantly looking for him. apart from the fact that he is gorgeous, it is so fascinating how generous the actor is with his expressions allowing us to read into Aemond's thoughts and emotions at times. Episode 10 is going to be so important for the story and I cannot wait for this week to pass to see how Ewan will choose to execute that part of the story♡ plus I'm curious to see adult Aemond riding Vhagar🐉

Kudos on the casting department. They found the perfect person to play Aemond. He's basically Daemon Jr. If I didn't know better, I would say that he was Daemon's son. They even kind of have the same walk. Plus the eye patch makes him look even more badass. Another character to love to hate.😄 I can't wait to see the two of them clash on screen!

Like everyone is saying already: there is a mirror-like quality to Aemond and Daemon’s rivalry. In many ways it must be like Daemon is looking at his own past reflection: a second son to a king, hot blooded and eager to prove himself better than everyone else at any cost. And maybe that isn’t a reflection Daemon liked looking at after he grew up, became a father and perhaps gained some wisdom to temper his emotions. I like to think that in being so set on killing Aemond, Daemon is trying to kill his past, and in some small way, make up for the mistakes or perceived failures of protecting his family.
