The diaphragm is the primary muscle responsible for respiration. Its broad dome-Iike shape separates the thoracic and abdominal cavities.
The diaphragm originates at the Xiphoid process, ribs (7-12) & lumbar vertebrae (L1-L3) and inserts at the central tendon into anterior longitudinal ligament
The primary concentric actions of the diaphragm includes drawing down on central tendon, increasing the volume of the thorax during inhalation
