My fellow Americans, words have many meanings, and sometimes instead of conveying our meaning they can suggest other meanings and be open to misinterpretation. And because words have many meanings and what we mean to say when we speak those words can mean so many different things; we can confuse our own meaning and misspeak. We’ve all done it. It happens to the best of us. Well, yesterday it happened to me folks. In a private moment that unbeknownst to me was surreptitiously and illegitimately recorded – I misspoke. I’d like now to clarify that misspeaking.

I did not and never would mean what some people have inferred I meant when I used the words I accidentally choose in that off-hand moment. I meant to speak purely factually and to imply no inherit criticism of any nature. I hope that clarifies the issue and this can be the last word on those words. I hope now we can put this behind us and continue moving forward to the important work – the work I’m doing for you: the American people.
