The most ironic thing about the Teletubbies doll that sounded like it said homophobic slurs is that there was ALSO a controversy where conservatives thought Teletubbies was "promoting a homosexual agenda" because one of them had a purse. It's giving "I always play both sides so I always come out on top"

I worked at a toy store in the 90s. We actually had tons of “soft recalls”. Soft recalls are where we quietly take an item off the shelf and replace it, but no announcements made. Almost always for dumb reasons

The teletubbie doll is not saying faggot. it is saying "faster" in Cantonese (faii-diit faii-diit faii-diit) which is considered a catch phrase for po since she says it while riding her scooter around the teletubbie dome. Po's voice actor is bilingual.

When it comes to a controversial toy that promotes child birth at a very young age, most mothers think that a child should play with a doll as if it were the child, not with a doll that gives birth to the child! I thought the same about the Trendmasters WuvLuvs!

I remember waaaay back when I was a kid that they had to do a recall on Teletubbies dolls due to one that started saying something like "Kill Ma Kill Pa" after kids AT the Toys R Us kept spamming the "Try me" button to make them "speak".
An interesting Honorable Mention would be the Cabbage Patch Kids dolls that you "feed" plastic snacks to. Their mouth made an inward chewing motion so it looks like they're eating the food. The part that screamed recall was that kids kept getting their fingers stuck in the mouth, and one girl got partly scalped after one of her pigtails got caught in the mechanism.
I was kinda hoping to get one for Christmas that year, but luckily it got recalled way before November...

Magnetix one is so STUPID! Idk where my kit is but seriously?! Parents it's not hard to keep those things away from kids, at the very least give it to a kid of 8 years or so and explain hey you eat this and good things won't happen

I spent 3 years homeless. Living in an abandoned feed mill, dumpster diving for food, and trying to keep a couple 2 liter bottles full of water. If the proceeds from this doll would have gone to help find ways to combat homelessness and help those that are currently homeless, I would be proud of Mattel for making the doll. However since none of the money actually went to help us, I feel like it's more of a cash grab at our expense than anything. But then again, I'm not homeless anymore. I have a roof over my head, clean clothes on my back, food in my stomach, someone who loves me, and even a few luxuries. I don't have a lot of money, but despite that, I consider myself wealthy these days. And to be honest, what more does a person really need?

The Po doll wasn't the only Teletubbies doll that allegedly said offensive phrases. According to Mike Mozart, there was a Tinky Winky doll that sounded like it was saying "I got a gun" when it was supposed to say "again again."
