Ratchet & Clank is a 3D platform video game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 2 in 2002. Ratchet & Clank is the first game in the series and precedes Going Commando.

The game follows the anthropomorphic character Ratchet meeting the robot Clank on his home planet. Clank discovers that the villainous Chairman Drek of the Blarg race plans to create a new planet for his species, destroying other planets in the process. Clank convinces Ratchet to help him in his mission to gain the help of the famous superhero Captain Qwark.

The game offers a wide range of weapons and gadgets that the player must use to defeat numerous enemies and solve puzzles on a variety of different planets in the fictional "Solana" galaxy. The game also includes several mini-games, such as racing or hacking, which the player must complete to proceed. The game was very well received by critics, who praised the graphics, gameplay, voice acting, audio, soundtrack and comedic approach to the story; some criticism was levelled at the camera, the characterization of the lead characters and the low level of difficulty in early stages.

I can totally relate to the old days where I'd get stuck in a game for a real long time. Come back to it after a few weeks, and then I am magically a prodigy. And well done on the review! Ratchet and Clank is my favorite franchise ever made so I'm really looking forward to the rest. Although I really need to play Tools of Destruction one day. It's the only main game in the series I never played yet.

In the spanish dub of this game, the guy who voiced Ratchet (from this game to the full series) really did an excellent job on the "split duo" part, so much than as a kid I wasn't annoyed for Ratchet being so mean to Clank, because the voice delivery was really toned down and good compared to the original, I think that really changed the perspective on the whole "Ratchet from R&C 1 is grumpy and harsh" debate for the spanish fans.

17:00 Hey, just a heads up, since your emulating the PS2 version you could've easily just talked to the hoverboard race girl while wearing the hologuise and you would've just been teleported there without needing to clip through a wall

The aiming never really bothered me when I played. I would lock onto a target and be able to fire perfectly. Even if you have trouble shooting most enemies go down after a few melee attacks.

Good review. The character arc always felt awkward but is better than the reimagining. The difficulty spikes I agree with. The Orxon music just like Gemlik Base and a few others I think really set the tone for the atmosphere and I always appreciate them. The water in Drek's Fleet while a bit ridiculous is to store water for the new planet, that obviously will be polluted and keep the cycle going. The aiming/lack of strafing isn't that bad but it can be awkward. Then again some weapons for sniping make sense to be careful when firing so I never felt it awkward. Only obviously the blaster or devastator. The Mine Glove always seemed pretty average though your supposed to use it with the Taunter to push them. Which is a cool idea but always confused me as other than the Orxon skill point to use the Taunter to taunt enemies into the forcefield I never use it. I do find the grinding in any Ratchet game to be kind of boring though compared to Scaler. Just the speed, the amount of obstacles, Ratchet's ones just feel so easy and while a break from the shooting/puzzles and clank sections do feel weak all the time. Scaler's build up fast and are challenging, I replay that game just for the grinding sections besides the other features the game has even if it's a B Grade game in comparison.

Well you did not disappoint. Great video. Normally this would be the time I would basically do a mini-review on your review and offer my own opinions. But I’ll keep it short...er.

It’s always good to start with the originals, and I’m glad your tackling the first 3 games. And even planning a PS4 comparison. However, I feel the PS3 games are severely underrated and not talked about as much as they should be. Hopefully you’ll get to them too someday.

Yeah, you gave a good point when it came to Qwark’s plan to off Ratchet and Clank when he could have just said “OK” and brushed them off. My guess is 1) Captain Qwark never thought of that, and 2) Drek probably wanted them dead so that they couldn’t do any more damage.

The conflict between Ratchet and Clank is a bit awkward after a while, but it’s better than no conflict at all and makes for good character development. Much better than how they treated them in the Reimagining. But I blame that one on the movie.

I am all about challenge mode in the Ratchet and Clank games and am usually eager to play the game again. However, the original is not as fun since the weapons don’t level up with use but rather just buying them.

Since you asked about what you would like to see specifically from your videos, here’s a list:

1) Top 10 Favorite Music Tracks from each game (Maybe mention your least favorites too)

2) Ranking your favorite side characters/jokes for each game. These games are known for their humor just as much as their weapons.

3) In addition to your favorite weapons and levels, also mention your least favorites and your reasons why. Best and Worst lists are always fun to listen to to get both sides of someone’s opinions.
