The weight is not much different but something about it feels lighter, maybe because the weight is distributed around a larger area. Also for carrying it around in a bag, thinness matters too.

I am a lawyer. I always work and do research with multiple documents and a lot of safari tabs open. The bigger screen, the more productive and comfortable I am with my computer. I would love to have that high quality screen from mbp 14’ but the screen size is crucial for me, so I have chosen mba 15’.

The comparisons are all over the place & in my opinion it really depends on if you're comparing the base model to base model or upgraded model to upgraded model. The base models, the differences are wide enough to know which one is for you. But really who goes with just 8 GB Memory & 256 GB storage nowadays. When you up the Memory & Storage on the 15" Air, the water is much more muddled. I am leaning towards the 14" pro now myself.

Sound quality is my #1 want so I'm going 16 in. The weight isn't the issue.

What I really lean into the m1 pro base 14” MBP is the screen, it is like buying the Apple XDR display on 120hz steroids. As a multi-platform app developer and designer, it hits all the sweetest spots.

Let’s be truthful .2 pounds is no difference at all! If you want a larger screen, get the MacBook Air if you want a more powerful laptop get the MacBook Pro!

Honestly, it really just comes down to whether you need/want to upgrade the Air.
If yes: get Pro (because you can get a Pro refurbished for less than an upgraded Air)
If no: get Air

In my use case I do back-end development and sys admin work where it's either server-side or cloud. I don't need the power of the Pro and for me I don't compare it against the 14 inch like others are. I'm comparing the 15 inch to the 16 inch pro mainly because of the screen size. My job requires me to be mobile and having a lighter laptop and a larger screen is much better. I currently have the 13 inch Air and it works with everything I need it to do. I'll be upgrading to the 15 inch Air. Yes, the 16 inch pro could help but the weight and the cost against the 15 inch air makes it an easy decision for me.

In US the difference is 700$ but in other countries the difference can be much higher than 1000 dollars. If you want a big screen from apple and you are not rich and live outside USA, the base air is a nice laptop.

What I’ll use the laptop for ->

Streaming videos, Netflix, Hulu, YouTube and so on. Google docs, safari, and chats/ iMessage. That’s my main usage on it.

You can absolutely do video editing in the 15 inch without issue. Unless your using insane 8k footage or heavy graphics.

The base 2021 MacBook Pro 14 refurbished is a little cheaper than the MacBook 15 air specced to 16/512. And I’m having a hard time deciding. I’m definitely a non pro user but I like the screen /speaker quality and additional ports that I might use. But I also like the bigger screen and keyboard use of the air 15. Which ever one I decide is going to be some sort of compromise.

This was an excellent review and reco, I have watched about 15 similar videos and at the end of the video, I was not clear on what they recommended and why. Even apple does a poor job of answering the questions, who am I, what am I and why am I right for you? Even their comparison tool continues the paradox of choice—-I am sure I am not the only one that walked away without purchasing . Thanks for making this clear.

Literally the best review yet. The comparisons and analogies really help clarify which Mac is best for which person. I personally picked up the 15’ MacBook Air. I was coming from a 13’ M1 MacBook Pro. The air really offered what I needed for my work load. I know it’s not a huge jump between the two, but I really think the air is great!
