I'm a plotter too and I feel the more I outline, the easier the 1st draft is.

I'm more of a gardener when it comes to writing and I happen to rarely outline my stories... But it turned out to be quite of a challenge when it came to writing bigger stories.

Don't really have a green thumb though haha :') Always nice to hear about other writers'experiences btw. And learn a lot from it.

Thank you so much for sharing your Evernote single outlining! I got the app and started doing something similar, and it’s just so much more intuitive for me. Something about the new documents for each scene stressed me out before? This new method feels a lot more fluid and flexible, and I’m really enjoying it. :)

Ah characters! The bane of plotters everywhere.
The characters are almost always the biggest problems for plotters. This is because we are so focused on the plot details that the characters just become plot devices (just things that move the plot from A to B).
One method Brandon Sanderson recommends to remedy this situation is to just have a very basic idea of the characters and finish writing the first draft first. This ensures that they are in line with the plot. Add more details to the characters after the first draft. This gives them the depth needed to be three dimensional.

Oh my gosh! Just yesterday I was wondering if I am a plotter, because I’m definitely plotting and planning everything out. But I didn’t know if I was doing it correctly, turns out I plot and outline just like you!! MC does this and then this, with some dialogue and descriptions thrown into the mix of the outline. It’s so refreshing to know that I am not the only one who plots like this, so thank you!

I use to be a pantser in high school and honestly looking back now, I have no idea how I even did that. Like where did the idea come from and how did it just flow so easily?! 🤣 It’s interesting but also frustrating. Sometimes I sit down and try to just write/pants but end up getting stuck and questioning my ability to even be able to write. So knowing that what I am doing now is productive and will help in the long run, definitely takes a weight off my shoulders. 🥰

Have you tried Saved the Cat method? I hate outlining but I used it to outline my fourth novel and it was a huge turning point for me! Even just reading the book (by Jessica Brody) you'll find so many amazing nuggets of info!

(I know this is super late but whatever) I do the exact same thing with my outline (including dialogue and oddly specific things or vibes) but I put the details in a light gray colored font and just the statements of the events I leave in black so it's easy for my eyes to pick out key words without getting lost.

I call myself a plantser. I do a VERY rough outline or group of ideas...then proceed to do something completely different.
