I Have a Serious PROBLEM With Cyberpunk 2077 'Reviews'

Cyberpunk 2077 has landed in a quagmire of controversy. After many years and many delays the console version (that the game was initially intended for) is so disastrous that the company is issuing no questions asked refunds.

The "Reviews" for this game were not only rushed, and suppressed... but this framework also opened the door for a lack of discipline... and a lapse in thorough review process.

All in all... the games "review" process has been something I find myself increasingly at odds with.

I've been gaming for 26 years, and I have never once relied on IGN or Gamespot for reviews, and absolutely not will I ever rely on these people.

I must say, some of the hype were on CD's fault, they talked about innumerous features within the game, the dynamism of Night City, it was not there at all. Maybe it could, if they had more time of working on it, but since it was rushed, lot of those details were taken out of the game released. It's hard to measure the unrealistic hype between digested lies.

I really don't even bother with "official" reviews from IGN, Gamespot and so on - they're largely unreliable

Honestly most "game journalists" are joke at this point. I see no reason why should they get game copy at all. They want it they can buy it, on release.

It doesn't help that these days everyone wants to make it big as a streamer/youtuber/influencer or whatever so there will be a metric fuck tonne of people putting in minimal effort to try and get paid from reviewing the most anticipated game of the decade. Hype culture is real and it facilitates an extremely dishonest and straight up lazy set of ethics from these content creators. I've never felt less compelled to check video reviews before buying something ever.

Xbox one x here. 35 hours so far. Crashed twice PER hour before the update. Still crashes, lots of errors. Still love the game, the world itself and only hope to see it get fixed.

I am. It's almost like I expect games journalists to be people that enjoy playing video games and/or being hardcore game enthusiasts.

I'm kind of having mixed thoughts about this game as well. Like you, it checks all the right boxes for me and I'm honestly having a blast. I'm playing on a moderately powerful PC, so I'm getting fairly good performance. All my friends also are playing it on PC, so I don't really have a perspective into the console market. However, I really don't agree with how CDPR went about releasing the game and basically misleading review outlets. That being said I also kind of feel like I can't really even be bothered to care at this point. I'm really hoping that CDPR continues their track record in fixing issues, improving the game in general, and releasing free DLC. It was undoubtedly a botched launch, I'm just hoping they stick the landing.
