One thing I would recommend is spacing your panels equidistant from the surface (wall / ceiling). So, if you have, for example, 4” panels, then space them 4” from the wall. 2” panels, space 2” from the wall, etc. Makes a huge difference and cost nothing more than some extra space.

I just happen to be finishing off some homemade panels today! I've had them sitting around the room for a few months, and they've made a difference just being in the room.
I found a really good deal on those little corner foam pads a couple of years ago and hung them from the ceiling all the way around the perimeter of the room, along the front of the cornice, so that they have a gap behind them, and that made a difference to the top end too. As soon as you enter the room you can tell the difference, it's suddenly more quiet.
They're not anywhere near being bass traps, but definitely a good investment imo.

Ciao David,
🍻🍻🍻😘🎼🎼🎼

Hi David, Love your content- I was wondering, if you have curtains on all the walls so essentially covering every surface and some treatment - So basically the room is very dead, you can audibly hear that … What effect would that have when mixing in this room, how much could you trust what you are hearing from the speakers?

I don't have any treatment at all, however, I have 3 shelves on my room, 1 with books, another with cds, cassettes and another with vinyl discs... I didn't know, but It seems that helps because my room sounds OK so I can record vocals and some acoustic instruments, and also mix
and master.

My previous room was very small (2.5*3.2 meters) and I placed my desk on the large wall because I had a window and a door on the small sides. So I covered both the two large walls with foam panels (10 cm thick) mounted on wood panels placed 5 cm from the walls. Low freq reflections were greatly attenuated, it was definitely ok for a production home studio.

Any way David you can show us what your doing in your room for treatment and then show us if you had a limited budget what you would start with next using your room as an example? I really appreciate your videos.

Hi David, What is ur preferred or minimal dynamic range what u accept for a hip hop or pop (electronic) production and how do you check criteria before u start mastering from a client?

and if you mixing what is your max limit before u start mastering?

And how u measure the dynamic range of the track ? greetz to Bella and all the best - Rob

If you're making your own treatment panels, printed T-shirts make great covers. Bands are the obvious choice of t-shirts, but I sing to Animal from the Muppets! 😁👍

Could someone post a link to the foam placement via mirror video David talks about? Looked through about 2 years of his vids and didn't see anything with a relevant title.

Hi David, what do you think of the newest recording tecnology of mics, that let us record directly in 32bit float (rode nt1 5gen) ? They use usb type-C, so you dont need audio interface. Thank you

Great information as always! I have a cellar/basement that is small. I can’t really put bass traps down as it’s quite damp down there and they would end up being covered in mould. Can I get away with just using the foam panels and rock wool panels I have plastered all over the ceiling and upper walls?

Hello, have you done a review of the slate headphones? What is your professional opinion of them?

I'm always wondering if your massive stack of gear on the left impacts the acoustics of your perfect room?!
