Wooting 80HE Review: New King or Late to the Ring?

Finally taking a look at the new Wooting 80HE. This finally gives us a form factor closer to what people have been asking for along with some other improvements that result in less customization than we've see on the 60HE. But do you NEED to mod this board? And is it still best-in-class now that so many other hall effect boards are out there?

**note you will need 84 switches total to cover this board**

To clarify one point regarding sound and feel: I have a VERY high bar when it comes to this bc of my background in customs, but on the gaming keyboard side - if you compare the stock sound and feel of the 80HE to the Razer Huntsman v3 Pro or the Steelseries Apex Pro, the 80HE absolutely walks on them.

Seeing a lot of comments too that the firmware on the op's boards is not always consistent in game so I'm going to be running a Boog75 as my main board for the next two weeks to weigh the experience and I'll get back with another video on that.

Wooting really killed it for me with customer support!
I bought a Used Wooting 60HE and it had a loose contact at the USB-C connector wich sometimes mid round just disconnected. So I wrote them and without asking for a bill they sent me a whole new Keyboard and said after i received the new one I can send the old broken one back so they can repair it. I didnt have to pay for anything and i had 0 seconds without a keyboard in this whole process. Thats how customer support should always be!

The audible sigh before having to say out loud, "Rappy, Snappy" lol

I know this isn't ground breaking at this point, but the big difference to me is the Wootility software. Their software is leaps and bounds ahead of almost everybody else's out there.

Thanks for the always useful and entertaining content Brian!

The Lekker V2 manufacturer is Grain Gold/Hejin. They make many magnetic switches including the Geon Raptor HE and Raw HE switches. 👍

The keyboard is good, but what's better is the software nad 4 year warranty. It's just overpriced, you can get similar quality for half the price and now there's so many different options for Rapid trigger keyboards from Chinese companies.

One issue with the chinese wooting clones is their software is often a bit inconsistent in game. It'll work 9/10 times but every so often you get a random press or release that doesn't work. They also tend to be scuffed with updating new features (for example many chinese clones now have socd/snaptap - but their socd still has a lot of quirks and bugs to date).

I'd take the wooting again over anything else. Not only befsuse it's an amazing keyboard, but also because it's made by some keyboard enthusiast crazy Dutch people and not some Asian multi billion dollar company who couldn't care less about their customers

The reason why so many (including me) will still choose Wooting is probably,
because they have by far the best software and
they are one of the few brands which make their keyboard available in so many form factors.
Of course they have extremly good customer service as well.

Man, I've been loving your videos for years now, and this really might be the best yet. This is one of the most concise, informative, and entertaining videos I've ever watched. I'm genuinely surprised at how fast and effectively you managed to get the heats of both significant and more miniscule information out, don't think anyone else could have covered it this well.

saw the wave of 80HE reviews and was hoping we get one from this channel as well, since you always deliver some of the best quality in my opinion and you delivered, thanks as always!

I love the Lekker V2 switches! I put them in my 60HE with the Alumaze case, and they’re night and day compared to the V1. I prefer the 60 weight because the 45 feels too light for me when typing.

Very thourough and honest review! i just got my 80HE last week and i am super happy as it is my first real mechanical keyboard. as you said for me it was also about supporting a brand that inovates and is not a cheaper copy.

Just to show my support for what Wooting is doing for the community and the customers, I'll buy one of their keyboard for my brother as a gift. I can definitely understand for some the cheaper alternatives may be the only option available both market wise and financially. But those who can show their support in any way, both by posting support or buying Wooting products, should. These type of caring attitude should be praised. 😊

Thanks for the review! I don't normally comment but your review came at such a great time. I've been debating between the 60HE and 80HE myself.

I do really appreciate the universal PCB layout of the 60HE like you mentioned. I wanted to pick up the 60HE module do I could slot it into my own 60% case but I do like my arrow keys and function row. So the 80HE is definitely a tempting one.

As a side note, I miss the "Are you ready? Let's go!" Haha that always made my day

It's certainly enough that I want to buy a Wooting over any other brand, and I can't be alone.

This is the keyboard I really wanted, but it kept getting delayed so I just bought a 60HE instead. Really happy with its performance

While i do love the Gat Jades, I definitely recommend checking out the new Geon Raw HE switches. Coming from the enthusiast side of the hobby, I was very impressed with them in my own 80HE
