Personally, I would squeeze a line on the top and then get a spatula to spread it and ensure that the whole ihs is covered for better cooling

I personally would have gone a tiny bit more than a pea size
10/10 for not slathering it though, so many home made pc use the whole tube 🙃🙃🙃

this is the ony way iv ever applyed tim..iv never done the spreading way the line or the x..always a small pea. some people are saying that its a big issue if the tim dose not reach the edges..i dont no how true this is for ryzen though.

Seems icing it on the IHS is now the way to go. The pea method may be outdated.

Wrong! The pea method was valid only for smaller CPUS. Today the only correct way on high end CPUs is spreading it evenly.
