When your setter receives an imperfect pass, she may need to back set the ball from a position off the net. This drill allows your setters to practice this out-of-system situation. As your setters run through the drill, look for good body position, high hands above the head, and an even follow-through. Your setters can choose to back set by squaring their body to the target or by setting the ball off the shoulder closest to the net. Imperfect pass back setting drill Purpose: To give setters practice back setting from a position off the net. How it works: A setter starts at the net in Zone 3. A tosser in Zone 6 lobs a high ball to the setter. The setter sets the ball to a position off the net, chases it down, then back sets to a catcher in Zone 2 to finish the round. The next setter steps onto the court and the drill repeats. Requirements: Three or more players, balls, and a half court
