This is not only solid advice for club DJs, but for life in general. Wisdom developed through time and experience.

Love the video!
Another thing to remember with bars is even if you don’t have a big crowd on the dance floor, look around to see who is dancing/singing in their seat. They may not be big on dancing, but they will stay because of the vibe you’re setting (which will make the bar more money and entice the guests to come back).

You hit the Nail on the Head with all your rules. I always give a shoutout to the Bartender or Barmaid to have the patrons tip them because the are working hard sling all the drinks. For a holiday party like St. Patty’s Day ☘️ I will play a Bag Pipe clip and tell the patrons when they hear that Bag Pipe clip it’s time to Drink up and then for Brown Bag Wednesday I will have a turkey gobbling sound effect and same thing when they hear the gobbling it’s time to drink up!!

I completely agree with all these tips and advice. I tell people that it can take ages to get a good reputation but seconds to destroy it. So, following these tips, a DJ can't go wrong. Thank you for the years of great youtube content 😊

I am NOT a DJ but having worked in the events space for years I can assure you the not drinking thing is spot on. Situations can easily go from bad to worse, leading to everything, from being fired, to legal trouble when staff are drinking. Little things that would’ve blown over *can* become big incidents that are talked about in the venue for years.

Another thing I wanted to add on top of your rule is that I have RARELY seen anyone drinking on the job in the events industry who didn’t have a serious alcohol problem. If a DJ/Caterer/Technician/Setup guy was drinking during an event chances are they had an issue with alcohol.

In my past experience out of all the tips, which were solid, #7 is your biggest and most important, I personally lost a residency based off the fact . I was more concerned about keeping the floor full and not doing the rotations, I was younger thinking more of the craft then the bars point of view and it cost me a great place, so younger dj's watching keep that in mind and save this video as a constant reminder of not just club life but your life after club life and how you handle it. They may love you but you have love them back by keeping the money flowing.

Hey Brian...Another great Vid Sir. I have heard you mention at different times that you "Rotate The Crowd" I believe you mean getting people from the bar to the dance floor and send the dance floor folks to the bar. I see the importance of that to keep things fresh. How do you do that if you seem to have a crowd where all the folks seem to be in the same age and music taste? Hopefully I worded the question correctly 🙂

OG brian. Love your advice. Could you maybe do a video on how to land these gigs? Or sales pitch to bars restaurants?

last weekend, I'd spent 2hrs training singers to treat the mics with respect only to have some random young lad snatch the microphone off a girls singing and shout down it which cut the bar's speaker system out. he did the same on his return from the toilet. I ended up getting on the mic and saying 'oi knobhead, keep off the f' mics' then I apologised for my out burst. I was sodding fuming.
the venue is kitted out with RCF satellite speakers around the place. I don't fancy the engineer call out and repair bill.

Good advice. I have to say Tip 1 is the best. Avoid bars that have people who smoke and if you enjoy trying to get cancer so be it. But avoiding smoke is big on my radar. I try not to mingle with smoke.. I didn't work there much because it smelled like smoke. True Story: The bar I worked at on Fridays had a bartender Linda. RIP. She died from lung cancer. She did smoke as well but having smokers around her didn't help. Peace!
