Disagree on test QA being taken over by this AI. It comes down to the whole QA process and developers / BA / Business Requirements and customer experience. Sure, there is a tool that can automatically pump out a test suite. How do you know the coverage is correct? Any developer who has read Business Requirement documents, etc. knows that there are many ways what is written can be interpreted, and even the requirements can be wrong. Meaning the system can be signed off and not meet the original requirements. Part of QA and auditing systems is to find these issues. And the amount of information needed / experience is something that an AI will not have. Will it help, sure. But, I see a lot of companies coming out with poor products if they pin their hopes on this.

Plus, this AI is a massive security risk. Especially if it is going out on the internet to build it's "knowledge" - people can track what it is up to. So, if you have an idea you are looking to get to market would you trust using these AI applications to help with research? I think not.

I see these as a tool that will find it's place in IT but like robots it will have set roles it does and does well and to a known quality. It will still take a highly skilled workforce to complete quality products at the end. As there are many parts of the process robots cannot do. Just ask Elon and Tesla when they thought they could automate everything - it was found it could not be done.

And don't get me started on writing code - there are already a lot of products out there to help developers be more efficient (I remember days of VT420 screens) and using vi / sed to get stuff done. And have old guys tell me about punch cards / ticker tapes to run programs. I see AI as just another tool to help - and I have worked in AI / ML for years and know under the hood what goes on - not what a lot of people think it is.

Embedded software test engineers will still be in high demand. There’s only so much you can emulate.

Great insights Luca! Love the recent videos lately on OpenAI 😄

That second one you mentioned of data analysis, I follow a Twitch streamer that worked in one such role, their entire department got closed due to AI.

thank you Luca for sharing this. I am mostly agree with you, good predictions

A lot of jobs being automated and they are at high risk of getting hacked, Cybersecurity might become a high demand field.

God may bless you, thank you so much, the first video of ALL YOUTUBE, that goes straight to which roles are at risk instead of saying "software is going to die" because it does not have sense to say that at a software platform as youtube xd

Hey Luca do you think about the future prospects of DevOps ???

What do you think about cybersecurity and its future?

True that basic QA roles will take an impact from AI. 💡If I was a QA engineer, I’d try to get into using AI or automation to build QA tools for job security

Not tech related question but do you think the supply chain management industry will still be a good career field option in future with all the automation going on ?

Scary future, but we will have to adapt. I'm still deciding what I want to do and because of AI I'm constantly changing.

Disagree with the architect you can't expect devs will think to use Message brokers combining it to some other stuffs to solve a problem out of the blue

For right now - i think everyone needs to become familiar with AI and howto use it. As a DevOps Engineer - you are sitll going to need folks that can depoy models, ensure they are running, ensure that systems that power them are running properly etc. But nothing in the future is certain as AI gets more advanced - we will shift from writing code from the ground up - to simply validating the viability of the code a model presents. TLDR - become an AI Engineer, Data Scientist, ML Engineer etc.

Great Insight! In the AI era, which area do you think is better/promising? 1. SDE who builds service infra to generate model training data to feed AI. As we have more AI models, we may need model data infra to provide large scale high quality data. 2. SDE who works on full stack to build AIGC application. Fullstack development is in high demand in industry now, but it seems easy for Chatgpt to generate frontend code as well. Hope to hear your insights for these two career growth directions. Thanks Luca.

Would you still recommend someone to go to school for computer science? I’m thinking about switching my major to CS but just unsure about the tech field right now and it’s future.

What do you think about the software architect? Is there such a role in a big tech company like Google and will it be affected by AI?

I work in IT for a bank and they are so risk averse they will never rely on ChatGPT or any fancy word predictor to make decision about their IT environment...
