Not equivalent at all. The calculator was equivalent to IDEs with built in debugging, syntax highlighting, and autocomplete getting made. A tractor was the equivalent of Emmet being made for HTML to do more work much faster. AI being developed that can do the development by itself is the equivalent of self-farming fields.

The scale of ChatGPT is much larger than you are making it out to be, and will no doubt have a significant impact on us as software developers.

When tractor came out the farmer didnt need to tow with cows anymore. In that exemple the farmer is the Company and the programmer is the cow that had to tow the plow.

Bruh before calculators, there were people making simple calculations as a job. Like adding or multiplying numbers, and writing them out for the managers. After calculators, all those jobs were replaced by far fewer people.
