The knight should totally be named Sir Prise, because he strikes where nobody expects him.

I like how the Pawn and Queen both have two weapons and red eyes. It’s a good connotation to the fact that most pawns become queens if they make it across the board.

I think your queen design and what it says about your chess was really interesting. The sort of manic look you gave her shows a more aggressive and violent use of the queen, which is common in rapid formats. In longer games, people are genuinely very cautious about their queens, because a piece being valueable also makes it more vulnerable. Because of this, I had the concept of the queen being a lot more of a cautious, shrouded figure that still towered over the board. A sleeping giant that rarely moves but you always have to watch out for

Fun Fact: In the original version of Chess, the pieces at the four corners of the board were chariots. The Persian word for chariot is "Ruhk". Henceforth, the pieces that replaced the chariots were (and still are) called "Rooks".

Edit: Another Fun Fact: Legend says that the inventor of chess was given the opportunity to ask for a reward. He asked for one grain of wheat on the first square of a chessboard, two grains on the next square, 4 grains on the next square, 8 grains, 16 grains, etc. up to the last square. The total amount of wheat would be 1645 times more than earth’s wheat yield in 2014!

You know, it was actually a really ingenious move to make the pawn a young girl, since if you move one to the other end of the board without letting it get killed, it becomes a queen! Great designs for my favorite board game of all time!❤

The pawn is canonically my baby- I love her sm, and we should call her polly. I like the idea of choosing a really innocent sounding, very girly name for her beacause it makes her seem more like a child being used and thrown into the battle field just to be a sacrifice, than a highly trained solider that wants to be there.

Some people may call it lazy, but personally I find whenever she'd copy/paste hands it's one of the most relatable and amazing things since it helps me remember all artists have struggles
That's really complex for a simple subject isn't it?

I read it as “cheese pieces” and now I want a scary Gorgonzola person

I absolutely adore these designs; the detail and all are just so well thought out! Being a chess player, the Knight has always been been my favourite as it’s often thought down upon, despite it being the *only* piece of which has a move that the Queen cannot mimic. I love how you represented all three so well, with the innocence & cruelty of the pawn clashing together so well!

I love the designs! Specifically the queen. I love her sly smile and the way you portrayed how you’re never truly safe from her and the moment you turn away she’ll get you! She’s also got secondary sleeves that look like a knights!

This is one of my favorites from you! I love how you characterized each piece based on their movements. One interesting note about the knight is that they mainly exist to take out the queen, because all other peices can only move within the queen's star pattern. I think that creates an interesting dynamic that implies the knight is somewhat of an assassin, and I love that you picked up on that and gave him a stealthier design rather than tank armor like a medieval knight. Please make the rest!!!

The queen actually reminds me of a Gooseworx character; the one eye, the angularity, that crazed teeth that some of their characters have. It’s definitely a different feel from your usual style!

i did a bit of research and i think Preesha is a good name for the pawn character. Preesha is a girls name that means "gifted" or "skilled", i also thought it might tie into the "chess lore" because of the fact that Preesha is an Indian name and chess originates from india! not to mention Preesha and Pawn both start with the letter "P".

Love it. I especially am interested in your take of the queen piece as most even myself think of her as more regal and elegant figure who commands the board by presence alone . Your portrayal is on the flipside showing just how powerful the queen really is with her monstrous form as well as her versatility represented by her arsenal of weaponry.

This is so beautiful! I would definitely love to see the other three! I'm not a chess player, but I loved Alice through the looking glass! I think the pawn looks super cute, but dangerous (like a street child or something). The knight is rather handsome, and I love his little hobby horse! Okay I know it's not a hobby horse but still. The queen looks absolutely terrifying! But in a cool way. Like if I was a human chess piece, and I saw her on the other end of the board.... I would just make a run for it lol.

I love the contrast between the grey skin of and red cape of the knight it makes it look very interesting

The pawn looks a lot like one of my oc! It looks great.

In my country (France), bishops are only called fools for some reason and I think fools/bufoons are really cool characters (cooler than bishops in my opinion)
