Ukraine and other states of the old Soviet Union voted in referendums to leave the union, the West supported this as democracy at work. Kosovo voted to leave Serbia and the West supported this and said it was legal setting a precedent in the UN for parts of a country to leave a country under referendum. I am not a fan of Putin but also see the hypocrisy of the West as an equal danger.
