Recently I dropped a video discussing the BIG twist in The Crimes Of Grindelwald. The Huge Reveal in the Harry Potter Universe film has a lot of fans split as to whether it’s a legitimate reveal or if Grindelwald is simply manipulating characters around him to help his cause.

Throughout this video, I’ll be discussing some of the best fan theories that I’ve read in the comments section on my previous articles as well as giving my full thoughts on the film’s ending.

There will be heavy spoilers so if you haven’t seen Fantastic Beasts 2 then I suggest you turn off now.

With that out the way, welcome to the site where I ruin it so you don’t have to.

My Theory
So firstly I’ll start with my theory which is that Grindelwald was lying and that Credence is not a Dumbledore. This is backed up by the fact that Abernathy and Rosier move files from the Le Strange Archives and have potentially modified them. This to me makes the most sense and Grindelwald is more than capable of doing so.

The Pheonix
But what about the Pheonix that appeared to confirm that Grindelwald was telling the truth, well Youtuber Lisbeth Melsasen says:

There’s a theory floating around about Ariana’s obscurus living inside of Credence, and the more I think of it, the more it makes sense. We know you can separate the obscurus from its host, and in that case, it should be possible for it to be transferred to someone else. it would explain why both Dumbledore and Grindelwald were so interested in Credence if part of Ariana is inside of him. It would also explain why Grindelwald didn’t know who he was looking for (if he knew Credence was a Dumbledore all along, he wouldn’t dismiss him, but he did, cause he thought it was Modesty he was looking for. Where did he even get the name Aurelius from, if it could have been Modesty?). Metaphorically speaking, referring to Albus as Credence’s brother is not wrong in that case, because part of him is Ariana Dumbledore. Also, it would explain the Phoenix – it’s showing itself for Ariana, not Credence.

This makes a lot of sense as the Pheonix would have been able to sense the DNA and go to Credance which would have backed up Grindelwald’s lie.

Fantastic Beasts The Crimes Of Grindelwald Fan Theories about the true identity of Credence and if Grindelwald was lying

Grindelwald Is Lying
Maulani Pradiana backs up the theory that Grindelwald is lying with an even bigger twist on Credence’s bloodline.

I think credence is not Dumbledore. In my opinion, credence is one of Voldemort’s ancestors (gaunt family or Salazar Slytherin’s heir). That’s why Nagini stick to the Voldemort in the end. And maybe that explains why Nagini fell in love with credence. Because he is parselmouth. So Nagini can communicate with credence when she transforms as a snake.
This makes a hell of a lot of sense and I think definitely ties in well with all of the things we know about Credence.
Ariana’s Son
Ben (I definitely got that right) has a theory about Credence being Ariana’s son which whilst similar to Lisabeth divers a bit down a darker path. He says:
What if Credence was Ariana’s son from one of the men who abused her. This would explain how he could have ended up with the anti-witch orphanage and also explains his age and why the phoenix came to him. It also may explain why he can control the obscurus.

I love all the theories floating around, it really sparkes interesting discussions. BUT, it says on the wiki that Ariana was 6 years old when she was attacked, thus making it impossible for her to be Credence birth mother

Look, I think that somehow, everything is leading us to Voldemort.

Why they choosed to start the saga in december of 1926, month and year of Tom Riddle's born?
They showed us, for the first time, how sees the world someone who is under a love spell. And someone forced to be with someone via Imperius curse.
Nagini is here. Nagini.
The story will span over 1945, the last year of Tom Riddle at Hogwarts, which means that at some point, a basilisk, a fantastic beast indeed (and an acromantula btw) will be there, at Newt's reach.
And we just saw a baby being murdered by an avada kedavra. A baby like Harry.

There's a lot more things, but those are the most remarkable.
I've been thinking that Voldemort, who can't feel love and most important, don't understand it, must envy A LOT the capability of feeling or understanding love.
He hated his father, thought his mother was weak and perhaps the father figure he was looking for in Dumbledore, turned the back on him cause Tom reminded him of Grindelwald.

There's something here. I can feel it...

Credence can be Dumbledore's brother and still be descended from the Gaunts... down to Kendra being one of Martha Steward's line. All descriptions of her say she looks Native American, but she was muggle-born. It would mean that all the Dumbledores are... perhaps Albus was a true parselmouth, rather than having "learned" as it was explained away in the HP books...

Ok, here I go:

Credence, hurt and almost dying, goes to a cave with Nagini, still a woman, to be at peace while he dies. Nagini goes out to find food.
Then, three boys appear in the cave. They are very young, 8 or 9. One of the boys talks to Credence. His name is Tom Riddle. Credence says him to leave, that he'll hurt him even without touching him. Tom says that he can do that too and wants Credence to show him. Tom pushes him with words and he talks just like Grindelwald, and Credence can't help but unleash one last time the obscurial. Tom survives it, and some part stays with him. The kids that went with Tom to the cave are traumatized.

When Nagini returns to the cave notice that Credence is gone and full of grieve, turns into a snake forever and follows the trace to the orphanage where Tom lives.

Dumbledore knows where the track of Credence fade and when someone tells him that a boy in an orphanage at London shows magic and that he was in the cave to, goes in person to pick him up to Hogwarts.

When Tom says: "I can talk to snakes, they find me", Dumbledore not only knows that he is a parselmouth and probably heir to Slytherin, but the last home of the obscurial and that it was in fact Nagini who talked to him in snake form.

And that's enough tinfoil for today

Fantastic Beast shows us how good Grindelwald is with words, magic and strategists. One thing I am unable to remove from my mind is that before the movie was coming to its final act there is a seen where Grindelwald calls apon all his followers from Paris via the means of black curtains on flowing in the sky. His followers living in Pairs saw that and they attend Grindelwald speech giving. So at the end of the final act Grindelwald decides the burn whole of Paris with his blue flames.
Its rather stupid of him to do so, since so many of his followers were from Paris and those followers might have families- parents, partners, children and etc. Did he not think that if Paris burns then many of his followers loved one might die and they might turn against him.

My theory is quite simple. Grindelwald needs Creedence to fight Dumbledore because he knows Ariana was also obscurial and therefore knows Dumbledore's conscience will not allow him to fight back. BUT he needs Creedence to believe that Albus is his brother so that when he finds out about what happened to his 'sister' he will want revenge on Dumbledore (Grindelwald will of course twist it so that it was all Dumbledore's fault because again, that's what he needs Creedence to believe).

I also really like the "Credence is being inhabited by Ariana's obscurus" theory. As far as I can tell, it wouldn't have t retcon anything from the HP books which the most important thing to me. I rewatched a few key scenes from Fantastic Beasts 1 and it really struck me how Modesty looks fairly similar to Ariana. Maybe that's why Grindelwald just assumed it was her and not Credence. If this is true, the questions for me become 1. Who in cased Ariana's obscurus after she died? Presumably Albus or Grindelwald or both. 2. Who put her obscurus in to Credence's body and when? Obviously not Grindelwald or else he would have known the sex and the age of the person he was looking for. Dumbledore then or someone else?

It's been a long time since I've been able to theorize about the Wizarding World and I am enjoying it!

Great Video! But wasn't Ariana 6 when she was attacked by those muggles. So I don't see Credence be her son...

What I find strange about when Grindelwald reveals Creedence's blood line is that the baby phoenix catches fire. First of all - it conveniently catches fire just as he reveals the secret. And secondly, I though that phoenix's only catches fire when it is time for them to die, and then grow naturally from baby bird to old bird. Could Grindelwald have used transfiguration to transfigure the babybird (maybe not even a phoenix baby) into a full sized phoenix just to make his story more believable to Creedence?

I think that ariana's obscurus found the new host makes a lot of sense, ariana's death and the birth of credence line up, ariana was able to survive past the age of ten and could've lived longer with her obscurus and so did credence, and it would make it a whole lot harder for Dumbledore to fight credence if his sister's obscurial was still existing, and that may even be the reason Dumbledore wanted newt to find credence

Ariana was six when she was attacked (double checked the deathly hallows and everything!) No way could she have gotten pregnant 🤷🏻‍♀️

Why not son of Aberforth? Any obvious reason against it? This is the least complicated theory and thus I prefer the most.

I think credence was born closer to 1910 and Grindelwald has to be lying

Excellent video! You brought up a lot of good arguments and theories.
If any of You are interested in diving even deeper in the theories surrounding "The twist" I have made 2 videos discussing it. Just released one on Ariana`s Obscuru`s being inside Credence and one about Percival Dumbledore escaping Azkaban.

I think Credence IS a Dumbledore because Albus talked about how the phoenix would only come to a Dumbledore in desperate need. The phoenix wouldn't have come if Credence wasn't a Dumbledore. So, yeah.

I think the theory with the obscurious is the most likely - it is Arianas power in Credence that is all dumbledore heritage. I think the theory with Credence actually being the child of Dumbledore and Grindelwald is really really interesting, it would even make sense. But, i gotta say, I don't think Rowling would pull that one off - imagine the response, people would be mad … gays make their own babies … No i guess it's the first one.
By the way - do you think it is a coincidence that Yusuf Kama's mother came from the Sudan and that is also where Newt tried to save a girl from an obscurious? Now that is something i don't think Rowling would write by accident - i mean there are so many african countries, and the sudan is the only one mentioned.
