i met Deacon before joining the Railroad, he was disguised as a Drifter and wouldn't say much but he had the sunglasses n voice. I read you can meet him throughout the commonwealth disguised as other things and i think that's really cool.

I think there's a reference to the "arrow to the knee" joke in fallout 4. One of the gaurds in diamond city said it

Bethesda actually put an Easter egg at this location where if you have like a lamp on a table, or a plate, and you are there long enough, it will fly off the table. I think that's why your companions view this place as creepy.
